Better to pay an arm and a leg for brake pads than to lose an arm and
a leg because one doesn't think they are worth it.

By that metric, I should sell my KLR and buy a sportbike. It's better to pay an arm and a leg for a bike with good brakes than lose an arm and a leg because I don't think it's worth it. Time for brake pads. Any opinions on these Kevlar pads?

I read the FAQ and there were some Parts Unlimited organic pads
mentioned which seem to be back ordered at the moment, according to
parts411.com.
I'd rather replace pads more often than wear out rotors prematurely.
Also, what's the difference between Galfer green (offroad) and the
more street oriented Galfer pads?
Apologies for the lazy questions. Just don't have time to do my own
homework today.
Thanks, ian

No, I tend to go with the EBC sintered semi-metalic pads. Note that the Kawasaki OEM pads are sintered pads. I view rotors as wear items to be replaced every 25-30,000 miles or so and given that a pair of EBC pads only last about 6,000 miles on the front of my KLR (I have the EBC oversized rotor, which of course chews through pads quickly when I use its awesome braking capability), I don't think I'd be happy with less-durable brake pads. -E> I'd rather replace pads more often than wear out rotors prematurely.

I've seen quite a few new brake pads where the locating pin holes weren't smooth and the pins were met
with resistance when putting things back together. Take a drill bit the same size as the pin and smooth
out the holes in the pads - deburring a little and things go much better. Still sticking/dragging?
If the pins are smooth and so are the holes in the pads, a cleaning out of the caliper and new seals may be needed.

any sintered pad has worked fine on my 04
with oversized rotors you can go to softer pads

brake pads
I got new pads put on a month or so ago, and they don't stop the bike as
well as the last ones. They told me they are "EBC" but I do not know
the exact pad.
For the group - What brake pads do you like best? I have stock
everything and I like to be able to howl the front tire, which I can't
do now.
Your help is appreciated.

I use stock Suzuki SV650 pads. They seem to work the best.

Old information though should be good... http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=82984
Glad you brought this subject up since I am adding a EBC 320mm front rotor and will be adding new brake pads.

It depends upon which EBC pads you got, I believe.
I put the EBC HH, sintered metallics on my Transalps, DL1000, KLR650 and Super Tenere and all saw an improvement in stopping power once warm.
The DL1000 ate rear pads like candy (3 or 4 sets in 35k miles). One set was of the non-metallic variety and if I remember right, they neither lasted as long - relatively speaking - as the metallics
nor did they stop as well. On all the other bikes and brake locations, the HH pads served quite well and lasted a long time without undue wear on the rotors.
Note that they never saw any mud or freal off-road (ab)use."
