Correct Tufstop numbers for KLR non metallic pads are TSRP 786 rear,
TSRP 905 front.
I've been using those pads for some years now, I think they are as good as
the more expensive pads I used in the past. Cheap is good!

Another super cheap pad that some people like for their KLRs are the
Tusk pads from rockymountainatv.com, but I have no personal
experience with them.
I've had great luck with the DP Brakes standard sintered pads, but a
few people have had the outboard rear pad's backing plate bend after
awhile. It may have been a bad lot with thinner or softer steel.

TSRP905 is correct for KLR650C
The correct front brakepad for a KLR650A is a TSRP802
I guess free information is sometimes worth about what you pay for.

I've got a question and a recommendation.
1. the question- does 3,000 miles on a set of rear brake pads seem awfully
short. The bike is ridden pretty hard off road, and I generally end up
spraying about 3 pounds of mud off the bike after each ride. The riding
conditions might explain it, but I wanted to see what other KLRistas have
experienced.
2. the recommendation- I got a great deal on my replacement pads from
http://www.murphskits.com/, $26 delivered, and they arrived the 2nd day
after ordering. Folks who have Concours are probably already familiar with
his site and great service, but I felt like I should spread the word. He
doesn't have a whole lot of KLR stuff, but he does have the brake pads,
button head screw kits, and headlight bulbs.

Rear pads on my A14 haven't lasted long either. I've just tried
EBC's "severe" service pads & I could detect an improvement right
away. The severe duty rating should also give them a longer life.
At 28K miles I'm only on my 2nd set of front pad (however, I've got
320mm front brake. It doesn't require much pressure to stop). At the
rear I'm on my 4th set. The rear is so "wooden" feeling, I think I
press a lot more on them than they can handle long term.

Seems awfully short to tme. I've got about 7k on mine, and while I havn't checked them in 1500 miles, last time I looked there was so much left on them I that I felt silly for bothering. ...But it's probablly all the dirt. I spend too much time on the freeway. erik> > 1. the question- does 3,000 miles on a set of rear brake pads seem awfully > short. Barry,
I've gone through a set of pads in a single day of mud off road.
Riding off road does shorten the life of brake pads, chains, sprockets
and tires.
For new pads I'd recommend the new HH+ rated Dunlopads: SDP310MX for
the front and SDP313 for the rear, which may come up as P/N 17210155
in Parts Unlimited catalogs. They have a very good grip.

I will keep using the EBC sintered brake pads I got from Fred. Mine
were just slightly worn after 4,000 miles and I took an extra set on my
continental divide adventure and added 5,000 miles. I kept an eye on
them and they are still OK. I still got the new ones when I need them.
All these miles were mostly offroad---not muddy conditions--but dusty
dirty.

brake pads
After 17,000 miles it's time to replace my brake pads. Most of my riding is
"on the road" I get to ride off-road on the weekends. What are most riders
on the list replacing their brake pads with? Stock or after market?
Thanks,
Denis

Tim at happy trails sold me the Galfer pads
(http://www.happy-trail.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=191&categoryid=43&sta
rtpage=1)
and for the last 6000 miles, has given me no hassles or noise. One thing
you will want to do is make sure you bleed the brake system while you are
there. Since I got my '95 KLR, the brake felt "spongy" which went away as
soon as I bled them. If you are interested, I have a very easy way to bleed
them by myself.
