Does the CBR have a tip-over kill switch? If not, has it ever been down? Many otherwise bulletproof bikes die prematurely from running while laying on their side. Kawasaki's ZRX is a good example. Catastrophic connecting rod failure is the usual end result. Often, this happens weeks or months after the bike has been crashed. Mike

I had a clutch shaft failure on a 2000 KLR650 engine. Part of the shaft landed between the clutch basket gear and the crank gear when the engine was on the power stroke, locking up the entire drive train, and it blowing the con rod out the bottom. I'm pretty sure the CBR does have a t.o. switch. This example had no visible signs of having ever been down. Actually, it is (was) a fairly clean bike. I'm thinking he or possibly a previous owner ran it a bit low on oil then over-revved the crap out of it at some point. BOOM! The rod decided to part company. eddie

If anyone is interested in a extremely well farkled KLR the guy who bought mine last year now has it listed on Craigslist for Portland OR. He put less than 1,000 miles on it, under 6000 miles total. $4,000 that is about the cost of the farkles, so buy the farkles and get the bike thrown in for free. Kind of dissapointimg that he was all enthusiastic about buying it with no realization of what it really was. Re: Headlight conversation, I lived in Ketchikan, Alaska. The AK State Troopers were clients of mine. The Troops were quite often refering to their pulling up at one of the beach party/bonfire sites, and seeing all the partiers scattering into the woods hunched over running while holding their cell phones about 18' or so off the ground. I'd get home and hear the other side of the story from my teenage son who, was one of the partiers. Eventually their budget allowed for night vision purchase, partiers thought that was a bit unfair, go figure. Best to all, Monte

I got stopped in a small town for 17mph over the limit. After a check of my license and insurance, plus a stern but fair lecture on riding more slowly, was let go with the verbal warning only. After I was free to go, I had to ask, "Why'd you let me off?" The answer was simple, "You didn't try and run." In his area, that's a rarity, apparently. =) eddie

My Darien Light from Aerostitch has zip out liner and is sized so that there is no flapping I've noticed. Also kept me dry living in Ketchikan, AK. (Agree about waterproof,I had Columbia Sportswear Goretex during their research phase in late 70's, had to tell them the guarantee did me damn little good when wet in the woods). I do wish that the pants had the optional bib overall which I see other suits have. The coat is parka length so lots of overlap with pants but I could see long riding in the wet "could" drive rain up the pants and under the coat. Happy Mommies Day to all of you Mommies Boys, Monte
