My dad used to write a food and entertainment column for the Mpls. Tribune. Once he did a piece about a roast dog he was served in Hong Kong. I think the death threats resulted from the description of the ride in the elevator of the high-rise, the delicious smell of the dog roasting, and the frenzied yapping and howling of the pets in the building who sensed that something was terribly wrong.

Huh? That's gotta be the weakest defense of a racist comment I've heard in a long time...... I'm sure everyone on the list was thinking "Oh he's referring to the country" - not the race that happens to live there. By the way if he was referring to the country he would have said, "So is ITS cuisine" not "So is THEIR cuisine." BTW - I happen to be Asian and can recognize when something is offensive or not. Brian, since you asked me what I think rather than telling me what to think I'll respond. It's called "First Family" law. Allows members of the family to travel with elected officials at state expense as all are representatives of the State. Most states have the same provisions in their government statutes. I know it would have made your day if the headline could read "AK White Trash Governor Abandons Family for Politics" or some similar drivel. Personally I don't feel like "spreading the wealth around" or "time for us to be more Patriotic and pay higher taxes" are ideas I can get my narrow little gun loving, trailer trash, religion clinging, multiple small business owner, mind around as your favored candidates so handily do. Yes Brian "First Family" You already know this but for some that don't. Gov Palin is from Wasilla, that is her official resident city. Wasilla is 50 miles or so by road from Anchorage, the commercial capitol of our state. Alaska's capitol is Juneau, about 500 air miles from Anchorage. Juneau cannot be reached by road, only air or water. So the Gov lives in Wasilla, does most state business in Anchorage, but must travel to Juneau for any thing to do with the Legislature. So yes we pay for a lot of airfares. Last Gov was a 60-70 year old man who didn't even take his wife with him on trips. His great idea was for the State to buy a jet. She sold the jet. Yeah, I can really see the appeal of a Senator who has written two books, about himself, but whos' name does not appear anywhere on any sort of significant legislation. Since you like guns, as do I, maybe you can explain why your favored candidate tells one audience that "If you have a gun in your home I'm not going to come take it away" but later the same day tells a different demographic audience that "If you have a gun in your home I'm not going to come take it away....because I won't have enough votes in the House to pass such a law" Income redistribution Patriotic to pay more taxes Class warfare it sounds like to me. But thats just me. Oh, by the way I'm no fan of Sarah Palin, but also I'm no fan of the hyper frenzy the media and those such as yourself have whipped up about her. If she comes back as our Gov she'll have some hard questions to answer from the residents of the various Pan-Handle communities who have been ignored on some key issues. But we Alaskans will work that out without the help of the media nor the "white guilt" crowd. Now will someone please start a good oil or electrical thread??? Monte
