Personally, I'll be doing everything I can to ensure that Sarah Palin continues as your governor.
If the McCain campaign would allow her to face some semi-tough questioning from the press,
some of the burnish might come off the legend of Palin-as-governor. (Charles Gibson and Katie
Couris took it easy on her, in my opinion. And she came off looking less-than-competent.)
For example:
The pipeline deal was signed, it's true, but is years away from happening, and may never happen.
As a Republican state legislator put it in September, There is no requirement to lift one shovel of dirt
or lay down one inch of steel." Part of the reason is that she needs the cooperation of the oil
companies. She's pissed them off--many would say good for her for doing so--but that puts the pipeline
deal in jeopardy. She can't have it both ways: Sarah the reformer and Sarah the deal-maker. And from
what I've read, many of the legislators who initially supported her deal aren't so sure any more.

Brian, you helped me out with some good advice at a dark time for my
family and I deeply appreciate your motorcycle contributions to this
forum.
That said: McCain has limited use of his hands, hence less skilled
than you obviously are at keyboarding. Do you actually think he or
any other Senator spends much time on the computer composing
anything??
Ever hear of "Staffers", they do that stuff.
Chinese health care is a joke. In your trips to Beijing you may have
experienced good care but try that outside the metro areas and you'll
find that dentists still use a hammer and chisel to remove teeth,
without x-rays, simple things like sterilized instruments are rare.
While she is obviously not as skilled a politician as you would like,
Sarah Palin got a LNG pipeline deal signed that has been the goal of
half a dozen administrations here in Alaska. She has a very high
approval rating here and if she comes back to Alaska as Gov. I don't
think she runs much chance of impeachment. Unlike some.
The most recent pro-Obama ad running here in AK says that McCain has
no plans for tax-relief for the middle class, but later in the same
commercial Obama states he'll provide "three times the relief my
opponent proposes for the middle class". Please correct me if I'm
wrong but isn't three times zero still zero
As for NoObama's financial advisors, two words to that point:
Franklin Raines

Monte - Thank you for the kind comments. You're a strong man.
As for McCain...
His war injuries are no excuse. Limited use of his hands? Perhaps
his doctor should explain this. From the McCain himself [SF
Chronicle interview] he said:
"It's changing the information age, and I've got to stay up with it."
Also "I am forcing myself... let me put it this way, I am using the
computer more and more every day." "It's not as if I'm out of the
loop," he said. "I understand the criticism, but I don't think it's
fair."
I have friends in far worse shape than McCain. One ex-Navy friend
discharged due to MS. An attorney that's a quadriplegic that uses a
stick in his mouth and other things to help him use a computer. If
McCain is suggesting his war injuries prevent his brain from
working...
Staff? Give me a break. As a Senator--a legislator--you'd think
he'd be proficient in email, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents,
Powerpoint...instead the dinosaur is as stale and inspiring as an old
leather boot. Sorry, Monte. There are people 80+ years old learning
the computer today. Right now. Unfortunately, McCain is too old and
rigid in his thinking to demonstrate he can affect change. He has a
bad temper which also makes sense.
Chinese healthcare? Top quality care in Beijing, yes. I experienced
an extraordinarily pleasant dental visit in Shanghai. Had wonderful
treatment in extremely rural Mongolia (ok, not exactly rural China, I
know) treating a broken collar bone...for $10. I'm not sure where
you're coming from with the China bit...now on to Palin.
Palin is NOT my idea of leadership. She is appallingly as under-
educated as she is enthusiastically misguided with her rah! rah!
speeches. She has a 17-yr old pregnant daughter and a father-to-be
dropping out of high school! That is just a brilliant model. Is
this the poster for responsibility you guys have in Alaska? I doubt
she's likely to get impeached either. She is doing some good things
in your state; admittedly I don't know them all. However, there are
bigger forces at work in Alaska than Governor Sara Palin alone. She
was just the spearheard attached to the pole... Ted Stevens and Big
Oil have ruled Alaska like dictators and the party is about to end
abruptly. I'm sure you and I can argue he's done some good things
for Alaska which should overshadow his graft and corruption.
By the way, can you see Russia from your house? Is it true Putin
rears his ugly head? Palin claims Putin comes through Alaska every
time he comes to America. Funny, I would bet he flies west from
Moscow to Washington, DC avoiding Alaska altogether.
Anyway, we've covered a lot of material here...to the point I'm not
sure what we're arguing. Obama will be a huge change for this
country and the world. Unfortunately, the GOP is a mess. Somehow a
monkey got into the office and pushed all the wrong buttons. McSame
is not going to be the charismatic leader we need. Palin was a poor
choice in judgement from what I'll call a desperate candidate.
Unfortunately, I can't guarantee Obama is going fix everything for
everyone. I wish I could be certain but can't. I'll get behind him
in order to get the country going forward. We're all going to have
to push together. The alternative is dire: a stale, temperamental
McCain (at odds with his own GOP let alone the Donkeys) and less than
my desired choice for VP. McCain he's been in the Senate for nearly
a quarter century; clearly it's where he belongs. Palin is a lucky
governor, and I'd rather not see her leave Alaska especially if
you're happy with her. Call it my gift to you. As for financial
advisers, I'll worry about that...next.
The bottom-line is even I'm growing tired of the corruption and short-
term greed-at-all-costs mentality. I think we all are. Things will
chance and improve if first we believe. I think we are on the cusp
of some really exciting times, but you of all people know the rain
comes before the rainbow. Of course, this is my opinion. If I were
some greater power, we wouldn't be in this mess.

You're right the "Political Arguing Season" is upon us for about 3
more wks.
Then we go into my favorite time of year:
The "Recreational Arguing Season" or RAS as it is known here in
Ketchikan.
Thanks for both the on and off forum responses.

and if you re-read the original quote you will see that he is
refering to a countries cuisine not a race's cuisine. not sure why
that even has to be explained. i guess because the squeeky low point
pivot gets the grease.

Actually when I lived in Brainerd, MN about 16 years ago, the
Department of Health closed down the very popular Chinese restaurant
in town because they caught them cooking up cats and dogs. What
tipped them off was the sudden increase in missing pet reports to the
Police Department which started shortly after the restaurant opened.
True story!
