clutch lever play: how much is too much?

Post by Norm Keller » Mon Nov 03, 2014 10:56 am

Practices such as dumping in that extra quart for rinsing would seem to only be justified on the basis that the investment of time and effort produces a useful outcome. What is that useful outcome?

Obviously, since it's your bike and your oil, you are at liberty to continue the practice. I'm simply challenging the validity of the practice.

I'm always concerned that others may be influenced to take on practices which have no benefit which is why I challenge them when I perceive that this is the case. If it is shown that I am in error, I will change my position.

clutch lever play: how much is too much?

OK, I've got my mechanical hypochondriasis back under control.  I've done the "clutch drag test" (pushing bike in first, clutch disengaged) with the engine off and cold, and warmed up and running, and warmed up with engine off.  I've done it with play of 3mm, 5mm, and 8mm.  The amount of play changes nothing.  Drag is greatest with cold, silent engine, all but gone with warmed up running engine, and mostly gone with engine warm and off.  Now I can sleep at night, knowing I can keep the play where I like it (5-6mm).  I don't have a clutch safety, so I couldn't test Fred's hypothesis that at some point more play will disable it.

I received the E-mail. I must say, 8 PM the night before is a hard time to find our there are several restrictions.  Luckily I have dark slacks and shoes but this is the first I heard that I would be required to shave my goatee.   I'm still not clear on the duties. Will this be site, unarmed, security ?  Walking or standing a post for 8 hours ?  Also, is everyone that signed up get one 8 hour shift ?  Sent from my iPhone

I have been watching this item for a while.  I have seen many reviews and videos.  The idea of a wallet sized battery power supply and able to jump start vehicles, I pulled the plug.  I found it for $115 free shipping on eBay.    Product has a light, 8 volt for laptops, 3 volts for cell phones, cameras and other USB type devices.  Includes the jumper cables.    http://www.jpcycles.com/product/126-882?utm_source=none&utm_term=[74945772970%3Aproduct_type_l1%3D%3Dvehicles%20%26%20parts%26%2Bproduct_type_l2%3D%3Dland%20vehicles%26%2Bproduct_type_l3%3D%3Dmot&adpos=1o1&creative=42040095730&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=Cj0KEQiAs6GjBRCy2My09an6uNIBEiQANfY4zHVrc3VILqyCUYl3HLWpsmEOzJsjtSYj-85x8cTehMkaAsch8P8HAQ   YMMV but plan to take this to Baja in February that will include camping in remote areas.  Should charge my GPS, cameras, MP3 player that is blue tooth connected to my cheap ass Built modular helmet that came with BT.    [img]https://ec.yimg.com/ec?url=http%3A%2F%2 ...
