Anyone know if there is a fuse involved in the brake light circuit? All the rest of my lights and stuff work and it was my understanding that the only fuses were for headlights, charging system, and fan. I checked out the bulb and it is good, and the light doesn't work with either of the brake levers which leads me to believe that the problem is somewhere on the hot side of the system. Hey Brian, No that is not normal.You have a problem somewhere.Start by checking the two wire plugs on the base of the front brake handle.Sometimes they get hit and get unplugged.If they are ok...next check the wire plugs on the tailight themsleves....they can get unplugged also.If all the plugs are tightly plugged in then the next option is to replace the front brake lever brake light switch.If that does not solve the problem....then I would take it to a professional mechanic. However, When this same thing happens to mine....so far it has always been because a wire came unplugged. Good luck. Regards,Gary

No. CHeck it out, there is something wrong there. The vast majority of your stopping is done with the front. It is connected to the light. Must be a bad wire or switch or it may be out of adjustment.

Well, started to take the KLR out yesterday afternoon and I always do a preflight on it , IE Checking all lights and fluids and kick the tires. LOL , I really do a full check on tire pressures once a week. So, this time, No Brake Lights. Okay, quick fix, change the bulb which was done in a few mins. What? Still no brake light. Hmmmm. Gonna take more time than I want to put in it at this time.  Take the Bandit 1250S out instead.  This morning, attack the problem. Pull the seat, nothing amiss there. go to the plug ins right at the taillight under the rear fender and untape it. Ah, one of the connects had vibrated loose. Cleaned all with CRC 26 , blew dry, a dab of Dilectric Grease , put back together, retape and re tiwrap and all still works. Done deal.  Then , very Non KLR , mounted an hour meter on my 90 hp merc powered Nitro boat.  LOL! Done deal there also.  '43 Andy in Jennings, '00 KLR  '07 Bandit 1250S

Speaking of brake lights; how many people out there have had problems with the brake lights staying on all the time? I've had it twice now, once on my Connie, now on my '08 KLR. I'm pretty sure it's the brake light switch for the rear brake. That's what it was on my Connie too. Do other people have problems with the Kawasaki rear brake light switch? If so, any luck repairing it? I've lubed the crap out of them before, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just tossing it out there. I had the problem, isolated it to the switch.  Replaced it with OEM part and 50K miles new switch is trouble free. You could replace it with a hydraulic switch, most dual sport conversions adopt that approach so you should be able to source the hydraulic switch easily.
