I use conventional Rotella 15-40w in both my 01 & 07 KLR's. Rotella has the JASO-MA rating meaning it has been tested for wet clutch motorcycle applications and passed Jaso's MA spec's. But it is mostly used for diesel motors.
Mobil Delcac 1300 has a conventional (non-energy saving/non-molly) diesel 15-40 wt. I can get Delvac for less than the price of Rotella. It has not been tested by JASO or; it didn't pass if it were tested. Regardless.
The question isn't why change from Rotella when it works well for me.
The question is, "Has anyone used conventional Delvac in their KLR?" Any issues? Does it work well/bad? Break down in wt.? As for that matter, does any (non-energy saving/non-molly) conventional diesel 15-40wt oil work well in a KLR?
Just asking. I might find myself in Paraguay/Botswana someday and in need of an oil change. It could happen...

If your happy with Rotella, you'l be happy with Delvac. Many have used it with good results. Some even seem to favor it over Rotella. Doubt that you will notice a difference.

Why change, to save a buck? If that's the case, why not run the cheapest stuff you can find that doesn't have the friction reducers?I'd stay with the Jaso's MA spec stuff because there has to be some reason for the differentiation from the others. I'll spend the extra buck a gallon.

I can tell you for certain that while I'm not the JASO, I've extensively tested it.
Bike runs well and the transmission shifts like buttah.
I've used it in the KLR and in the DL1000 with no ill effects.
