electrical/doohicky my mistake
my big mistake was not changing out the stator etc. and increasing my electrical power while I had the klr apart when doing the doohickey. just 10 more minutes it would have been done. Fred has parts needed.

The stock stators are close to bulletproof; the aftermarket stators have been much less reliable. I'd leave the expresso maker and blender at home and stay with the stock stator. Your "big mistake" was actually a great "decision". Take a bow!From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com

These do not charge sufficiently at lower RPM so trail riding with fan can be a problem. Can't recall the wattages but ElectroSport used to offer stock, higher output and higher again. I had the second and was very happy with that as were several friends. Reports regarding the higher output were not as good for those riding slow trails. Can't recall the wattages but that should be sufficient. Otherwise can likely look up in my notes. A friend sent a photo of a Kubota diesel equipped KLR with claimed 90 hp. I was in love when I saw the 60 amp. Nippon Densu alternator.

I have removed my stator, and it took days, not minutes. The first screw stripped like butter (I know, I probably didn't have Japanese Spec screwdrivers...) and getting it out was quite a big job.

Why are you rethreading? If the threads are pulled out, rethreading won't do it. You'll need a heli-coil or insert of some kind.
Likely we are just using slightly different terms and you are wanting to do what I'd call "thread chasing" (repairing damaged threads)?
The 6 mm are as Jeff said, so chasing can be done with tap or thread chaser or home made chaser by cutting a slot(s) in a bolt and cleaning off the burrs. (Certain you know this already but thought someone might not). Of course, one also has a big problem if the threads are damaged at the opening because it can be quite challenging to start the tool accurately. I wish that the spark plug chasers I have which go into the hole then open up to engage the threads were available in smaller bolt sizes..
