My K1200lt died 2 days ago. Started it ran a bit rough and DEAD. Last summer Over $400. to test and replace an oxygen sensor.30 days later, ABS lights flashing, they said the battery was "ok" above what is needed. (WRONG for 1999 & 2000) So they flushed out the brake lines. $285. STILL FLASHING.  Aprox, 30-45+ minutes, (BILLABLE TIME) JUST to remove enough Plastics to $TART TRYING to play with things. Voltage 12.80, but after lots of searching the web, I found the 2000, NEEDS 12.85++ to make the computor "happy" (battery 1 year old and tended all winter, on a good Float tender.  ANY! I repair motorcycle brake modulators and often see these kinds of problems.

 

Can't help with the dead engine although it has been my (limited) experience that BMW are quite susceptible to low voltage so it might be worth while to do voltage drop tests to see if there is a poor connection between battery & ECM. It's not unusual for motorcycles to develop extremely high resistances through the ignition switch circuit.

The mod is replacing that screw with a piece of round stock with a threaded hole in the end. If I recall correctly the part is 1 1/4" long and 1/4" round stock. I used brass for the ones I made. I knurled one end for better grip. I think, but don't remember for sure, the threads are 8-32. When I first did the mod I made a few of them for friends that were installing the Vista Cruise. I contacted the maker of Vista Cruise and they asked for one for evaluation. They liked it but for corporate reasons decided not to add it to the product. (Repaisted) FI has been around almost as long as Carburators.  The electronic version for almost half a century.  Since when is replacing a fuel injector and electronic module any more complicated that breaking down a carburator?  The BIG question isn't since when, But WHERE! Example: Replacing a Kill or Kickstand switch is hard to Impossible 50 miles from NO-WHERE.Bypassing them can be done ANY-WHERE.   At one point I had a Corvette, minivan and a 3/4 hd truck. (besides motorcycles and a LAWNMOWER Both rider and push and a weed wacker. all grass cutters) Longer trips (100+ miles) The Corvette was crappy, not being able to move around in the Bucket seat, I would have rather taken the old rusty truck. They all have there places for the job.  When I'm on Pavement "only" (98%) trips Ya, sure, give me a Fuel injected Gold Wing, etc., I know I will be near gas stations, get towing easy, etc. etc. If I expect to get off road, I trust being able to fix (OR Duct tape, Zipstrip) just about anything to get me back to PAVEMENT, where I can get AAA or someone to help. I have always been baffled by people in THE USA that keep a job, or motorcycle (ANYTHING) They Hate.  PS. As much as I love my CARBED KLR FOR WHAT IT IS!, My old riding LAWNMOWER does a better job, on mowing the lawn.   (Hmmm?
