I ll do a roll on test with you.  We start at 150.......   Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com   From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2014 3:21 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com ; jokerloco9@... Subject: RE: [DSN_KLR650] World's Fastest KLR

I've done "roll on tests" against a number of stock HD big twins with my KLR685. The KLR beat them all.  Maybe not fair comparing a modified KLR to a stock HD but...life isn't fair either. But much more fun is running down a herd of them on a twisty road like the Beartooth Pass in MT.  Best of all is explaining that your bike has 1/2 the displacement, costs 1/5 as much to buy and 1/3 as much to insure while burning 2/3 as much fuel...and 2/1 as much fun. (for those that slept thru fractions 2/1 can be read as "two times" :-) From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: 6/ 12/ 2014 14:10 To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com; minoman59@... Fred posted:" I ll do a roll on test with you. We start at 150......." Since you are in the USA, I'm confused as starting at 150 kph for either a stock KLR or Harely must mean kilometers per hour and not much left for either from there. Not sure where one might go with modified stuff as that's generally a "who has the biggest wallet". Fun though!   One of my very favorites was when we had a cottage on BC Highway #3, east of Hope. There's a steep hill  called "The Hope Slide Hill" in honor of a huge landslide which got some people and filled the valley back some decades.   My previous KLR would do 140 kph (84 mph) up that hill. It didn't matter if I stopped at the bottom, hit it at 100 kph (60 mph) posted speed or flat out, it would stabilize at 140 up the hill. Lovely to come up behind the Harelys and watch for when they noticed the KLR. They would wind the throttle the rest of the way which increased noise but seemed to have no real effect on speed. I'd have about 10 mph on them and creep by while they pretended not to notice me. (Shades of South Park)   My ST1100 was even more fun because I could roll up and drop gears, one at a time until was in second. A well loaded Harely would allow first. Often they would use a hand signal to try to encourage me to shift into gear #1...or that's what I assumed as they were only showing one finger.  Smirk!   Truly humiliating to ride $30,000 worth of noise and be passed by the snail of the dual sport world. ;-)

Apples to oranges is a great comparison, Fred! :-)   Yes, that looks like a pretty fair roll-on comparison, or at least one far more worthy of mention over pie & coffee. It's always best to inspect the other guy's weapons before agreeing to the duel. ;-)

Hmmmmmmmm! I have a ways to go. LOL! A quick top end run last week to check out a new set of tires at speed gave me a GPS reading of 92.6 mph with a few more left in it. Didn't hammer on it long.  I was pleasantly surprize it would still go that fast as it's an A14 with 37,000 miles and totally stock.

I don't remember it, but it "MUST HAVE" happened...... My GPS say's my max speed last trip out was 568MPH. (And we all know the gps's are more accurate  then the speedo, that is off about 5mph.) WOW It happened so  fast I missed it. On Monday, July 7, 2014 4:37 AM, "achesley43@... [DSN_KLR650]" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
