Check out the T30 Bridgestone.  Good handling and long lasting.  Dual compound, hard in the center for life and softer on the sides for better grip. Put some cello-wrap over the magnetic area. The magnetic cuttings and such will stick over top of the cello-wrap which can be peeled off to drop the cuttings. Putting the magnet or magnetic bag into a garbage bag then running it over the area when looking for a dropped screw also works a treat as pull and peel gets rid of the cuttings.

I stuck a tank protector over the tanks of several bikes to avoid scuffing by the tank bag.
