Listers, Martin called me at 5:30 this afternoon. He is still in the woods but can see the edge of them and is on the way out. He is in good spirits and says the next 6-8 weeks are going to be well regulated. He appreciates the thoughts and prayers and concerns from you and expects to be on the computer in the next few days. He thought if all continues to go well he'll be going home tomorrow. For now it is best to contact him via his cell phone if you have that number or by e-mail like on this list. He is still tired and trying to get rest. Hello KLR list-I have escaped the hospital and have arrived home. Thanks for the notes of concern; perhaps, will be turning gas into noise in about 10-12 days. Will write of the escapades in 1-2 days. revmaaatin.

Very happy to hear you are back home again. Hospitals are wonderful places but you really don't want to stay there longer than you need too. Have been sending positive thoughts your way. Alan Henderson On 5/17/2014 3:03 PM, Martin Earl mjearl4@... [DSN_KLR650] wrote:

when to change brake pads?

Post by mark ward » Tue May 20, 2014 7:53 pm

I know the topic is coming SO.
Kawasaki says do not let the pads get below 40,000ths. (A dime is about 50,000ths)
BUTT I figure if you ask IT'S TIME!
At $28-$40+ (FRED HINK'S page) IS IT WORTH TAKING THE RISK?
Do the math, At 3/4 worn you might "save" $10. a year? by risking a few hundred more miles not only RISKING, parts but YOUR LIFE.
I just changed my rear pads, (I bought my pads along with my last order from fred last fall?)
I would say they were at 70,000, so I know I easly had another 2,000+- miles, BUTT I do not want to take the risk of FORGETTING, and haveing to change them on the road.
As easy as it is the swap out pads road side, there are alot of OTHER THINGS I WOULD RATHER BE DOING.
AND IF you for get, you could be looking at METAL TO METAL COSTLY PARTS REPAIRS. (rotor)
AND, THINNER PADS TEND TO CRACK AND BREAK APART! WHEN THEY GET HOT!
So you look and they look OK, then need to ride them hard a few times, NOW THE RISK OF CRACKING CAUSES NOT ONLY MONEY FOR PARTS BUTT ALSO SAFETY!!!! RISK'S!!!
CRACKING APART PADS ARE POOR STOPPERS.
SO If you ask IT'S TIME. (remember the DIME)
Travel Safe! Travel Well!
