hylomar gasketing and sealing compound
I forget who advised using Hylomar. Maybe Jeff Saline? But no matter
who suggested it, I am wondering if it would be a good compound to use
where the wires go through the left side case to the alternator. If
not, what would be better?

Thanks Jeff,
I am a little worried that High Temp RTV might be a little too
permanent. If the RTV bonds to the rubber portions, well I guess that
isn't the end of the world.

Well, Jeff, the factory uses something. I know because I scraped it off!

I just use plain ole silicone seal in the tube. Just a finger smugging on the surfaces, let dry a bit and put the part on. Been doing that since the '70 on all engines I had to work on back then to make the gaskets easier to get off the next time in there. I use the red hi temp stuff on the KLR side cases. Never a problem in the past 14 years on this bike.

Places that sell bulk tobacco should have Zippo or Ronson fluid. Evan
Walmart should carry it.
HOWEVER, the stuff is basically just Coleman white gas (naptha) at
five times the price.
