anyone want to help me replace my doohickie?

Post by Paul Glasspoole » Wed Oct 02, 2013 5:41 pm

Does anyone in the Denver area have the unique tools necessary to perform the doohickie change?

Want to teach me how?

My background...I am a Medical Manufacturing Engineer, have advanced mechanical aptitude and an awesome set of tools ("My Dad's a Plumber" - if you get the reference).

Anyone up to the challenge?  I live in Frederick but could travel to meet with you (but then YOU would have to supply the basic tools!) on a weekend.

engine and radiator temps run again

Post by Andy Chesley » Fri Oct 04, 2013 5:16 pm

Jeff,I have in file the work you did on the twin radiator conversion. Probably next Spring when I flush the coolant and be looking for the extra radiator and reservoir on ebay or ???. I'll probably go with just the second radiator as you suggested back then. Thanks for the heads up on that conversion. It do get and stay hot down here in South Louisiana. ;-) Andy in Jennings.   I'm using the left radiator temperature sensor to control both fans.  I figure if I use the right sensor it'll be coming on a lot as it'll be getting coolant right out of the engine onto the sensor.  I've wired the fans so both come on at the same time.  I checked the draw on each fan and the stock KLR650 fan grabbed 5.0+ amps in a surge and immediately stabilizes at 2.45 amps.  The KLR250 fan surges at 2.9 amps and then immediately stabilizes at 1.29 amps.  I pulled the relay out of the rubber holder and it's rated at 22 amps.  So I'm thinking I shouldn't have any electrical gremlins waiting to fool around. <><><><><><><> End of partial post from March 2008 <><><><><><><>   So quite a difference between the two bikes for both cooling systems and temperatures.   Currently in a power outage and snow event.  A bit early in the year for a blizzard don't ya think.  : )   Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650 . . . . .   ____________________________________________________________ Do THIS before eating carbs (every time) 1 EASY tip to increase fat-burning, lower blood sugar & decrease fat storage info.fixyourbloodsugar.com #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 .ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-photo-title { TEXT-ALIGN:center;WIDTH:75px;HEIGHT:15px;CLEAR:both;FONT-SIZE:smaller;OVERFLOW:hidden;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-photo { BORDER-BOTTOM:black 1px solid;BORDER-LEFT:black 1px solid;BACKGROUND-COLOR:white;WIDTH:62px;BACKGROUND-REPEAT:no-repeat;BACKGROUND-POSITION:center 50%;HEIGHT:62px;BORDER-TOP:black 1px solid;BORDER-RIGHT:black 1px solid;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827photo-title A { TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827photo-title A:active { TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827photo-title A:hover { TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827photo-title A:visited { TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-table DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-row { CLEAR:both;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-table DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-row DIV { FLOAT:left;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 P { PADDING-BOTTOM:3px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-RIGHT:0px;CLEAR:both;OVERFLOW:hidden;PADDING-TOP:15px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-file { WIDTH:30px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-table DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-row DIV DIV A { TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-table DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827attach-row DIV DIV SPAN { FONT-WEIGHT:normal;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 DIV.ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-file-title { FONT-WEIGHT:bold;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp { BORDER-BOTTOM:#d8d8d8 1px solid;BORDER-LEFT:#d8d8d8 1px solid;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:10px 0px;PADDING-LEFT:10px;PADDING-RIGHT:10px;FONT-FAMILY:Arial;BORDER-TOP:#d8d8d8 1px solid;BORDER-RIGHT:#d8d8d8 1px solid;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp HR { BORDER-BOTTOM:#d8d8d8 1px solid;BORDER-LEFT:#d8d8d8 1px solid;BORDER-TOP:#d8d8d8 1px solid;BORDER-RIGHT:#d8d8d8 1px solid;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827hd { LINE-HEIGHT:122%;MARGIN:10px 0px;COLOR:#628c2a;FONT-SIZE:85%;FONT-WEIGHT:700;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ads { MARGIN-BOTTOM:10px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp .ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ad { PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp .ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ad P { MARGIN:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-562316618 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827 #ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ygrp-mkp .ygrps-yiv-562316618yiv2030888827ad A { COLOR:#0000ff;TEXT-DECORATION:none;}
