Asking us if it starts, are you? Right track, switchwise, it would seem you are on. M Sent from my iPad

I sent before I meant to. Read the bottom paragraph. Sent from my iPad Begin forwarded message:
> > > Subject: Comparisons > > > > Sent from my iPad > > I was strolling through the neighborhood walking my attack Yorky when I saw a guy bent over an 883 Sportster. As one who has always had a sonde ness for Sportsters since the age of 14 when I rode a friends, I stopped to talk with him about it. He also had a Softail he had owned for 10 years.....and put.....4000 miles on it in that time. Whew....sounds like a week on a KLR? Anyway he was saying how fast it was and it wasn't a Forster like some claim. Er....I had just read a comparison test between that particular 883 and the new Yamaha Sportster copy. Both had 5 or 10 horse more than a KLR but at least 100 pounds more weight....and the performance figures in the test were roughly comparable to a KLR. Now I didn't wanna start an argument (which is unusable for me) so I let him smoke whatever rubber he was smokin. The KLR has adequate speed but no modren barn burner. > > Then I read the article on the new Indian by Victory in the new issue of Motorcyclist. If you like a lot of metal (read fenders), 800 pounds, with moderate performance with 1940's nostalgia thrown in, this may be the bike for you (if you like spending 20 grand). > > Then I picked up my Cycle World September 2013 issue withe new Yamaha FZ-09 triple on the cover for roughly the cost of the 883 and the Yamaha Sporty copy. Looks real similar to my 650 Versys except one more cylinder and 200 more cc at about the same weight as the Versys. Now if I were gonna spend 8 grand or envisioned spending 20 grand but wanted to put 12 grand in the bank, I would jump on the FZ-09 triple instead of the other 3. Call me crazy. I may have to have a garage sale and raid the change jar.

There are some nice Triumph triples too, if you like triples. I always figured Yamaha copied Triumph, back in the 70s, but then Kawasaki had some triples too. But wait! What about the Triumph Tiger? And yeah, I will race any 883 Sportster and plan to beat them. The bigger ones, not so much. Robert Wichert P.Eng. Looks like a nice bike at a decent price. Can't wait to see one in person and possibly, although I doubt it, take a ride. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa

The offer I used to make to Harley owners in the days when I was busy putting 200,000 miles on a /5 was: Ten hours, any direction, for pink slips. I might make the same offer with my KLR, with the proviso that I get to pick the route.

Yes, I used to offer to race Corvettes in my four-wheel-drive pickup with 33" tires. I choose the route. Not a sporting race. Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

We have talked about his before, Ron. I had a blue one with number plates instead of the side storage panel and oil tank, clip ons, and no headlight cowling, no speedo, no tach, no turn signals and no center stand (it went the first day - couldn't lean it over worth a damn). When they came out with the 750, I had Carl Cranke port the engine to what amounted to HIR specs. I went about 100 miles between rebuilds, but what a ride! Robert Wichert P.Eng.
