Randy, Sounds like something might be bugging you. Have you checked the main jet yet? I had a similar problem; I believe the t-mod actually let a bug find a new home, and it was sucked into the carb, and caused it to stumble. It would allow ~40mph and no more. I rotated the carb, removed the fuel bowl, removed and inspected the jet with a loupe and discovered a bug-wing sucked into the jet. Yes Virginia, I found what was bugging me. cough. m1.> > Thanks for all the input on possible causes. They have ranged from fuel and > heat, to a couple of electrical possibilities. gen2 oil burning cutoff?
Does anyone know when Kawasaki changed the rings for the oil burning
engines? Was there a date, or vin number, that should designate the
change? I have a 2009, so I'm curious.

Nada on the oil burning problem! But I've read somewhere's Kawasaki did change the oil rings. Might do a search on it. Think from what I read, the '08's had the worst problem. No problems at all with my '00 but then I'm not riding about at 75-85 mph either. Or, above 6000 rpm going through the gears. Phew! This shoulder stuff sucks, have not been on my KLR for 5 weeks now. But , have run it till the fan comes on a few times and keep a Battery Tender on it also. Crashing sucks!> Look under informational articles and then for timeline.
