The Wolfman bag is the best I've used or - for that matter - seen. Eric is also a valuable member of the klr community. Check it out: http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/03Tank/Explorer.html Bogdan

I'll second Bogdan's Wolfman recommendation. My Explorer with handle two sections of a folded (on the original creases) AAA map in the standard map pocket, and Wolfman offers a plain paper sized map pocket as an accessory for those who print their own maps or just want something larger. You can also get larger side pockets and a top pocket. __Arden

I'm sure the Wolfman bags are very nice but why spend $159 US for what's essentially just a bag, when you can go buy a backpack at Wal-Mart and attach it to your tank with bungee cords for pocket change? I noticed there is a eplorer and an explorer lite. It looks like the explore was downsized for bikes like the KLR is this correct? Mike Bogdan Swider wrote: and Wolfman offers a plain paper sized map

Both are structured to fit the sloped tank of the KLR (and other dual sports). The Lite version is just smaller than the standard Explorer. The optional KLR harness works with both versions. The harness works with the stock tank and shrouds; if you've switched to an IMS tank you'll have some extra work to do to attach the front straps and deal with the vent tube coming out of the tank cap. I have the Lite version and I like the size when used with a stock tank. It doesn't get in the way when standing on the pegs, but it has enough room for all the junk I like to have easily accessible while traveling. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA)

Because it will shift around and drive you crazy; a moving tank bag can even be dangerous. The map pocket on a real tank bag is also very nice. No way would I mess around with bungee cords and a backpack though I carry a folded one for hiking on my trips. A good solid fit is very important. Before the Wolfman I used the Chase Harper Eurosport for years. Riderwearhouse highly recommends it. There was no way to make it stable on either of the bikes I mounted it on. It would ease away from the direction of the wind and was sensitive to the load it carried. I wish I would have switched earlier. Bogdan

The Wolfman is designed specifically to properly fit bikes like the KLR which means it stays in place and doesn't flop around. Also, be careful with regard to what material your cheapo backpack is made of. I tried the backpack trick on a trip to the States a few years ago and discovered I had the equivalent of a twenty pound sponge sitting in my lap, every time it rained. I've used the same Wolfman Explorer on two bikes over five years now... no seam failures, no zipper failures, keeps things dry( with rain cover), stays where it's put. Best $ 150 bucks I ever spent.
