tank bags

Taf, Notice it said "formerly used for a woman's skirt." Sounds about right to me, some guy used the framework from his gals skirt to fashion a set of bags to hang on his bike. Kind of like those earrings I gave the wife for Christmas, they can double for fishing lures in a pinch. Guys always seem to make more sense. Marshall in Slidell, La.

Brad, Slightly smaller and hang in front of the rider, usually over the fuel tank. Marshall in Slidell, La

I am shopping around for a tank or tail bag, but specifically I want it to be able to convert into a backpack so I can take it off of the bike and use it while walking around and the bike is parked. I am searching and searching anyone know of one that does that???? Richard Hayward A7

Richard: Do a search for Convertible Packs or Convertible Backpacks. These are not motorcycle specific and would have to be used as tail bags. Some examples: The North Face Lhasa Eagle Creek World Journey Eagle Creek Global Travel Pack - 50L Eagle Creek Global 40L Expandable Carry-On REI TourLite Travel Pack Lowe Alpine Voyageur 65 Lowe Alpine Voyageur APS 75 Hope this helps, John --- lokiyaya007 wrote:

Check out the Marsee 15 liter teardrop tank bag. There is an optional kit for like $6-7 to convert it to a backpack... http://www.marseeproducts.com/page/tankbg3.html

I've got a Tourmaster (I think it's called a Tri-bag). In checking out all the pockets and cooterments, I found that it has a set of straps inside the bottom, pull them out, attach them to the other side, and you've got padded straps to use it as a backpack. Link (cut and paste below) http://www.tourmaster.com/ct_tri_tank_main.html? mgiToken=D031D80258F6C88235&mgiToken=D031D80258F6C88235 Hope this helps. I'm very happy with mine. A bit big on the tank of a klr, but it works fine. millerized a15

It sounds like millerized has Tour Master TB 24 for a tank bag. The tri bag is only advertised as a magnet mount. The TB 24 comes with carrying straps. On the TM site they claim the TB 18 has all the bells and whistles of the 24, but they don't say it has straps. It may be a better size if it does. If you are interested in Tourmaster stuff check out helmetmadness.com. Not all of Ralph's items are listed, but he has answered my emails quickly. I got the rear tri bag system (cortech saddle bags & tail bag) from him. Apparently he buys last stock and sells at a discount. Check ebay too. Harvey Ride far and prosper.

I'm thinking you're correct, but it doesn't add up. They call it a TB24, but it's a 34L bag. 10L Upper bag, 24L lower bag. And, yes it is magnetic, but I've had no problems with it staying put. Regardless, I know it's a big honkin monster on the tank, but it works, and it didn't cost me all that much on e-bay. I guess I can also say that about the Tourmaster saddlebags, Cortech 3/4 jacket, Scottoiler, grips, and soon GPS. (shameless E-Bay plug) You might want to consider something else for the "long trips" on foot, as a fully loaded bag doesn't feel the best on the shoulders. The straps are nice, but not extremely well padded. Better around town, than up in the mountains. millerized a15 (preparing for a LONG trip!)

tank bags

Another thing your all forgetting, the Kawi tank is about the ugliest tank bag out there, it flops from left to right, sometimes right to left! Its angle in such away that when full, and you open it, some of the contents fall out. The map pocket is known to split, and like someone has already oined out, it does get in the way of the rider, well the bigger riders that is. And some men are just down right BIGGER than others :-) Would like to add, I have been very happy with my Kawi rear bag and saddle bags, just don't like the tank one. Dave Salem Oregon

Had Kawi bag, mapcase split after a couple of years, had some tools in it smash into my enormous genitalia in an entirely unpleasant fashion while riding off road. Now have Wolfman, holds way more crap, gives adequate clearance for my colossal package, has removable side bags, better map window. Only bummer about Wolfman is the straps stay on the bike if you remove bag, hang down onto exhaust pipe. Go Wolfman or Marsee, I reckon.
