Who was the nutcase from Washington state? Jeff Walker? Fireball Stuart Heaslet from Florida, he was here and then already mostly gone before I got on the list... Steve Green, Krokko are old time listers too... Arne Larsen and Vik Banerjee rode their KLRs from Canada to Moab for the KLR Owner's Get Together in 1999, the Cal Posse rode in from So Cal (Toby Lampson, Russell Scott, Scott Bower and Jeff Crocker and his girlfriend). Holy cow was that really 14 years ago? My goodness, how time flies. I actually rode the same KLR to work today that I rode to Moab in 1999, it still has the sticker on the swingarm, believe it or not!! I should take a picture.... Fred, best to Gino and you. This is starting to sound like Old Home Week! It's a KLReunion! Thanks CA Stu A13 PS Who was the guy that signed all of his posts "Thanks"? Bob from NY, I think...> Let me throw out some names of old time members of this list to see if anyone remembers these people. Irish Kate (sorry you can t have my car) Bob Morgan and his red headed wife Killarney on the Honda 90, BoB Carreras (the second B is how he spells his name) Toby Lampson, Arney Larson and a host of other colorful characters....... Irish Kate remains the second longest continually subscribed member to our list (yours truly being the first). > > Fred > http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com > > > > --- In mailto:DSN_KLR650%40yahoogroups.com, Bogdan Swider wrote: > > > > I'll quote Gino Pakluda who started the newsletter whose readers and writers became the first klr group I know of, " Every motorcycle should have a center stand. Remembering all the old names from that era. Always had planned to get to the gathering but never made it. I bought my present KLR in the Fall of 99 as an 00 model and broke it in on the TAT Arkansas and later Colorado. Thanks for the memories. Stu, I think it s time to dig out the photos of the broken frame and your flame job...
OH ya, how could we forget Jim Sherlock? I was going to say easily but we now live in a more kinder and gentler time. Didn t I read that Jim is no longer with us? RIP Jim
We have had a few members leave us before their time. Also RIP Jennifer.
I do hear from Stuart Heaslet from time to time. He was living in a RV and traveling and causing general mayhem where ever he goes.
Another old time member was a doctor that was heading to Turkey I believe and was going to be doing a Doctors Without Borders thing on his KLR and I wonder what ever happened to him.
There was a KLR rider a long time ago reported that he was in a major crash on his KLR and his condition at the time seemed pretty grave. I always wonder about those that we don t hear from again. Like the KLR member that was looking out of his office window and reported seeing a plane fly into one of the Twin Towers. There was a member that was getting his KLR prepared to do the Ice Road in the middle of winter as a fund raiser for Autism. I wonder what life has brought him since this event. I hope some or most of us still remember Mariola and also Punky & Lew. Two old time KLR members with major life changing stories to tell.
I do remember with fondness the Cal Posse days. Those were some of my best memories of the CMC. Bill Haycock was also involved along with BoB Carreras and Gino helping put together our Utah Get-Together.
AH, the old days!
Fred

Yes, we've had some characters not you, me or any present lister, of course.
Anybody remember Devon who lived in Brooklyn NY and worked in Manhattan ? He was the first to install a Doohickey. It was fabricated by Jake Jakeman RIP. It didn't quite fit his ear told him upon installation. He took it out, put a file to it and all was fine; the needed changes were reported to Jake. He hand installed studs into his tires so he could commute in New York year round. He was so relaxed in urban riding that he actually fell asleep while on his klr on, I believe, an expressway in New Jersey. He messed up his hip but it healed.
Last I heard, Mariola, another hip injury while on her klr, remarried - #3 and is living in a suburb of Chicago.
Nice to think back,
Bogdan

I rememer Devon; I mis-spelled his name as Devin in an earlier post. His KLR was equipped with a milk crate to carry groceries. In one posted photo, it shows that it is snowing madly, the snow is deep and the bale of pampers were clearly visible. It left no doubt why he was out in a snow storm. revmaaatin.> > Yes, we've had some characters not you, me or any present lister, of course. > > Anybody remember Devon who lived in Brooklyn NY and worked in Manhattan ? She was hit by a driver that was operating a vehicle with no brakes. I was
in West Africa, Gambia I believe. I remember visiting with you in Moab.
Didn't we breakfast together at Mc Donald's ?

I used to ride and wrench with Devon all the time. He's got two kids now and drinks from the orange kool-aid fountain. After the accident he went to a smaller bike (KLR250 I think) and eventually to team Austria. We used to have some good times finding dirty places in the NYC metro area. One of them is now an IKEA. da Vermonster> > In a message dated 2/28/2013 1:21:23 P.M.
