adjustable brake lever

Post by Ian » Sun Feb 03, 2013 12:05 pm

Here's one on eBay from Motion Pro. The only one I found in about thirty minutes that is specific to the KLR650 and it's not a shorty lever. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motion-Pro-KAWASAKI-KL-650-A-KLR-650-09-Polished-Brake-Lever-/111007993976?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d8979078&vxp=mtr Didn't see it on Fred's site. One would assume there's a matching clutch lever available too.

The description to this eBay lever says nothing about it being adjustable. It also says NOTE: Generic image displayed. . The price they list is about 150% of suggested retail. The title says this lever is polished and the description says it is black. The OEM replacement lever from Motion Pro is Polished. The description say OEM replacement and as far as I know all the OEM levers were non-adjustable. You pays your money and takes your chances. If shorter reach is needed, How about bending in the stock lever? (Add thoughts here.....) 3 times I have used a heat gun, (and a pipe slipped over the end,) to straighten out a firends BENT lever. So My thought would be bend it in a little. PS, A tourch could damage it easyer. the heat gun has a wide heat pattern I found easyer (SAFER) to use.

And something as simple as a small tie wrap loosely around the cable between the lever and the perch will bring the lever closer to the handlebar. I like to ride the technical sections with a couple fingers on the lever yet still gripping the bar. Left over from the 2 stroke days when you needed to get the engine just over that power band threshold where the power explodes with a quick tug on the clutch lever. Sorry didn't look carefully enough. However, the one in the generic picture LOOKS like the correct lever for the KLR650 as far as can be seen. - ian

Yes, it does, but I cannot find any dealer or manufacturer who says they build or sell an adjustable lever for the KLR 650. I adjust mine by falling over and making a nice bend; or sometimes removing that troublesome ball on the end. Custom levers! By myself! Robert Wichert P.Eng. I was considering doing some "field modifications" myself to the existing levers but was hoping to find a shorty lever with the safety ball on the end to fit. Being a piano player I don't want damaged fingers if I can avoid it.

My first shorty brake lever was due to a tip over. I liked it so well for off road that I cut the clutch lever down also. Alan Henderson A13 Iowa
