corbin seat
I'm thinking about doing something like this to my seat:
[http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Seats.html#DIYSeat%5d. It seems like a
simple, inexpensive and effective approach. Has anyone here tried
anything like this on a KLR seat?

Here are some other KLR 650 saddle options plus a little discussion
about each one I came across in my searches on the same subject.

My seat has been similarly treated but a get bladder has been inserted instead of that fancy foam. It's also lowered some by cutting foam off the tap. If you insert a bladder make sure you put some foam on top of it otherwise it'll get very hot from the sun. I didn't want to mess with it so I had the deed done at an auto upholstery place but you could easily do it yourself. My seat is comfortable and has perched me on many all day rides. My used 95 came with a dished corbin and my old 87 back in 90 had a
stock seat. I got monkey butt w/ in a 100 miles on that stock seat.
I do like the dished seat w/ my 32"ish inseam riding solo. Riding
with a passenger isn't so pleasent on the pleasent parts. Though I
don't get monkey butt with a passenger.
No complaints from my last two lady friends. One bigger than my
slender 5'11 frame and the other not weighing 100lbs. The other lady
friend wouldn't tell me her weight but the shock just about bottomed
with her on...
I find the vinyl with aged coretech pants doesn't slide
unless "friends " at a bike shop put pledge lemon polish on the seat.

seat. Yeah, don't ever put anything on the vinyl, it gets *real* slippery if you do and takes forever to get back to normal where you don't slide all over on it. It's a KLR. It's supposed to be ugly.> I find the vinyl with aged coretech pants doesn't slide > unless "friends " at a bike shop put pledge lemon polish on the

No way of knowing, but I'm around 190 pounds and it broke in nicely for me. My KLR is by far the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. Slow as a slug, though. -E> > --- Lesley wrote: > > > > > Listers, > > > > > > Reading these recent posts on the Corbin seats, I'm > > > wondering if maybe the > > > weight of the rider makes a difference.

Rider weight is a factor. My last corbin was a gunfighter on a Harley, it never got broke in. I was about 165lbs. then. Had a friend about 300+ and his seat was like glove leather and soft, but not like a spong. Both bike and seat are a memory now.
I got my red A6F Saturday. With my 28" inseam the corbin will be a must. Tip toe stock. Have lowering links on the way, but feel giving away ground clearance and messing w/original "X" dimensions on the bike not the smartest thing to do.
Will install links for around town and drop forks 1" to compensate. When I scrape together a few bucks I will return bike to stock configuration and ebay links.
My 2 cents.

Nice idea, but the added piece of foam seems awfully small to affect the weight distribution.

Hard to tell. For me the main point of discomfort is those two bones
that sink right to the seat pan. If the piece of foam is adequate to
make them happy maybe it might just work.

I've been experimenting with a "home built" seat also. There's alot of info on the web about seat foam and ideas. I started with a Travelcade gel seat kit, some foam and fabric spray adhesive, and several different foam types. I have yet to test the new seat on a long haul - but soon. the Travelcade cover does look great and the no/slide spandex is a bonus. Helpful links: http://www.homestead.com/prosites-rmcycle/foam.html http://www.foamforyou.com http://www.obairlann.net/~reaper/bmw-bike/ninja/seat Attempting something like this was a no-brainer for me. The investment is less than a new Corbin. If I do happen to get a comfortable seat (I already like it much better than stock), there's the satisfaction factor that can make you grow a couple of inches and save a few bucks by no longer needing lowering links. If it turns out to be a miserable failure, stock seats are reasonable on ebay and I'd probably get a new, firmer seat then my old stocker was anyway. I'd then "quietly" throw my seat project in the dumpster and have yet another "class" in the School of Things Better Left to Professionals. I'd call the material cost "tuition" also. I've spent money on much dumber things than this. -CamoGreg> simple, inexpensive and effective approach. Has anyone here tried > anything like this on a KLR seat? > > Mike A18

What about this seat?
http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Brand/Kawasaki/klr%20650%20gel%20seat.htm
Says they're on sale right now for $109!
That sounds like a good deal to me. Anyone ever use one of these?
