Fork brace-Another Market I have called several Lister vendors about my KLR 600 B-2 and inquired about a fork brace. List vendors either don't make one or don't think the one they have will fit. SpecII, sold me one for $129.95 and Gary, the owner, sez the brace for my 600 will fit 650s too. The device is Teleflex, made in Germany. Its aluminum and powder coated. It is a Telefix, there are millions of them out there. Look in the back of any motorcycle magazine, they are probably still there. They are common. I think you can get that model that fits the KLR (45?) from another place cheaper. Try MAW or CompAcc (even though their website is completely phuckt). Last one I bought was for a K-bike and cost me $80. I never knew that a Telefix would fit a KLR. I've had bikes they've worked on, and I've had bikes they didn't work on. I think the KLR would benefit from either, the Happy Trails, or the Telefix, due to the incredibly weak fork bottom arrangement which lacks pinch bolts of any kind. The whole setup is dependent on the 58 ft/lbs of torque on the front axle, and then what you see is what you get....not much. I talked with Dual Star about their brace. They want $200 for it. It does not have direct metal-to-metal contact with the fork. It replaces the fork boot with a rubber duster cap which is the interface to the brace. They say that by not having a direct metal-to-metal interface like the Happy Trails ($200) brace and the Superbrace ($100), the forks can flex a little in the brace and avoid binding, making the ride smoother. Telefix brace clamps on to the top of the fork bottom slider and is adjustable for width using slots with allen head screws. I am not saying it is a good set up. I have owned several (well, two, actually) and it isn't always a good thing to prevent the tops of the fork bottoms to move in and out and back and forth a little. The KLR is a different story; it's fork bottom and axle clamp arrangement is so weak by design it can only be improved. I am sure either one would help it considerably. I always get a kick out of feeling the front end flex and wobble when I am rolling hard through a corner ahead of some $14000 italian machine (they get to pass on the straights, so what the hell) Dr. William B. Curious rationale: let the fork brace mounts flex so the ride can be smoother? Flexing sort of defeats the purpose of a brace. I would have thought that a brace would reduce binding due to twist. Mister_T

Hey gang: The fork brace is one of the best additions to my bike. I bought a very well crafted brace from SpecII. Its a Telefix. It shouldn't be over looked. John '86 KLR 600 B-2
