When I got my klr it had a supertrapp on it. I had never ridden one before and no one near me has a klr. It has been a spring of enraging dogs, scaring babies and becoming a popular fixture of the neighboorhood. I picked up a stock klr muffler next to new. Wow its so quiet, rev it up and its still quiet. I don't notice any loss in power and it seems pretty smooth. Now Im worried more cages than usual will fail to notice me:) Crash

Most "threats" were from the front and the sound from 99% of mufflers go out the back. Loud or quiet, it seldom matters for safety. I got one of those new florescent green and florescent orange jackets to give them something to aim at. I can't imagine the logic Harley guys use dressed in black leather bar hopping at night with no helmets. I got run over by a drunk one night and I was dressed in a black Navy P jacket. Question : Did you rejet went you went back to stock muffler ? The KLR I picked up came with an FNF repack every 20 hours and no I'm not interested in doing that and the noise is driving me crazy so I'm thinking of going back to stock as well. Prior owner "drilled the slide" whatever that means and put in a new jet. Would I have to put stock jet back in ?? Why did he drill my slide? If you put the stock muffler back on, the bike may be a little rich and a stock main jet would be in order. They tend to be lean from the factory, anyhow. As for the drilled slide, there's an air hole that allows the slide to rise/fall easier. Enlarging it can aid throttle response. I drilled the slide, shimmed the needle and backed out the air mixture screw a little on my otherwise stock 09'. It's run terrific for 17,000 miles since I did. If I were in your position, I'd put the OEM muffler back on and see how the bike runs 1st. It may "like" the setup. =) eddie

The theory behind true stealth motorcycling, the kind that advocates the use of International Safety Black (aka Rustoleum Satin Black) is, if they can't see you, they can't draw a bead on you. Harley stealth is different. They want you to see them. That's why they ride Harleys. What they don't seem to grasp (remember what I said?) is if they dress like a gay pirate in black, they are not going to show up well in poor light conditions. You are not going to see them to appreciate their epicene badassedness. You are also not going to see them to avoid running into them. Because their pipes are pointing the wrong way, you are not going to hear them. Because they are not wearing helmets, they are going to hit their heads, and their lives are going to be spent, not saved. OTOH, with your jacket, if somebody wants to take aim, they can hardly miss. But they will not be able to claim they didn't see you. That jacket is going to catch the attention of riders, drivers, and even aliens in a distant galaxy, perhaps in another dimension. They are going to mount expeditions to investigate. Fortunately for us, due to the exigencies of interstellar travel, by the time they reach our corner of the universe, human habitation will be but a faint memory on the face of this Earth. You should leave that jacket out when you are done with it, so they don't come all this way for nothing.
