drained battery

Post by Ian Francisco » Sat Jun 30, 2012 11:02 am

I left the key on and fully drained my lo-tech vented battery. Topped it off w distilled and charged it up. Took a while for the "smart" charger to figure out it was really charging but it eventually did and the battery has seemed normal since. Guess I got lucky. Maybe I'm in line for a nasty surprise miles from home. I always reiterate my warning about the inexpensive yellow AGM batteries with the four poles making them fit more bikes. I had two of those fail in my KLR. Either they couldn't take the jostling on fire roads etc or couldn't take the output of the KLR reg/rec, which is strong enough to boil a vented battery dry on longer high speed runs. Went with a Walmart Everstart AGM for my scooter this time. Came with an acid pack to add then you permanently seal the battery. Saw the 14LA2 size in AGM for the KLR when I was there, Not cheap at like $75 but the scoot battery seems like a good quality item.
