Mine had a plastic lever out of the transmission that selected between high or low range. But then again, maybe this option was only available on the 110. Gezzz I used to get pissed when people would call it a moped! Greatest trail bike ever. If the going got to rough, pick it up a carry it.

So lets do the math: If 4000 RPM = 60MPH with a 15T sprocket, then a 16T sprocket has a 16/15 advantage such that 4000RPM = 60MPH *16/15 = 64MPH So Mark gets the prize for making accurate observations. The 16T advantage is 6.6%. Eventhough this gain applies across the entire speed range, you may not be able to attain maximum speeds due to lack power in overcoming wind resistance. I don't know of many KLRs that will max the tach out in top gear unless going down hill will a tailwind. -svt-

I > can get you a 17T but comes without any guaranties. I agree I have a trio of front sprockets a 14 ,15,16. it doesn't look like their is enough room for a 17. the fourteen is good in the rough and the 16 is good on the highway the 16 is as high as I would go . I weigh 260 and with a loaded bike (tank bag, kaw- saddle bags and back bag)on a long straight stretch I top out at 7300 rpm. if you could get a 17 tooth on a 17 tooth would be to much to pull, sluggish in high gear, and likely get poor fuel mileage especially into the wind. I can find no increase in fuel mileage with a 16 over the 15 and very little(2-3 mpg) between the 14 and 16. I like the sixteen for the decrease in rpm at higher speeds but it didn't increase mileage or top speed. the top speed is the same for me with either the 15 or 16.(it will tach higher with the 15) Maybe if I weighed a hundred pounds it might make a difference but to me the lower rpm is the benefit but with a 17 I think my bike would fall on its face in the wind. I have ridden motorcycles that were geared too high before and you end up holding the throttle open hoping it will do better, and it will --on the downwind side of a down hill Jim Arkansas

Nope, no wheelies onna connie...I've seen lotsa pictures tho...I wouldn't be too happy about having 600+ pounds slammin' back down on the pavement! Now the KLR's another story...fun wheelie machine..Wheelie into the parking lot at work every morning - wheelie out of the lot in the evening...No wheelies on the street, tho' that would be an expen$ive ticket... What teeth? My KLX650R-D1 has 14/49 stock, 100% off road, and I'm ready for a smaller front. Not sure if a 13 tooth front is available. -- David Kelly N4HHE, dkelly@... ===================================================================== The human mind ordinarily operates at only ten percent of its capacity -- the rest is overhead for the operating system.

Well consulting my Sprocket Specialist catalog that was sent with my order, your in luck. Front Steel stock is 14T, they have 13T-17T available for order. That must be a really special front sprocket, considering the front sprocket for my KLR was only $12.99, the KLX-650 R lists for $37.99. Ouch, btw the rear is available in Steel 47T-52T and Alum. 38T-74T Prices vary from steel to aluminum to with Hot Slots ect ect http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/ ( No connections ) Heck the rear sprocket I ordered came on a blister like pack, even has a nifty SprocketSpecialists swingarm sticker(s). Hit there website and take a look. Duden A15 Pilot (Frozen in)

17T? Wow! For KLR's, their site says 14-16T for 1990 and up. They *still* say that these bikes use a 112-link chain... Goofballs. RM

Ok I have the sprocket cover off, and have bent back the safety washer, the bike is in first gear, I am holding down the back brake, and have a bungy cords on the front brake. I'm trying to un-screw the nut in a anti clockwise motion, but its not moving ! What am I doing wrong ???? TIA Dave
