easter dual-sport ride

I am new to the egroup and new to KLR for that matter. Bought a 95 A9 a
couple of weeks ago. It's my first Kawasaki and fifth bike(the others were
Honda). I've been looking seriously at the KLR for about 5 years and the
more I thought about the more realized that Hey! The KLR does it all. No
limitations. Yep that's for me. I love it! Cant wait to take nice long trip
on it.
When I got my A9 home and made a few loops around town I noticed the bike
was running a little choppy. 13 miles later it stalled at red light and
wouldn't start. Well, I've never owned a Kawasaki and my Hondas never let me
down. I asked my self " Do they always run choppy? Is this what I have to
look forward too. I new it was too good to be true!" I finally settled down.
As I hoofed it home. I soon decided. It's a used bike and just needs to be
taken into the shop and thoroughly cleaned and restored. I pulled my KLR
into my shop and tore into it, as I do when buying a used machine and should
have done before taking it out the first time. Cleaned the (dirty)carb,
(dirty and clogged) air filter, chain and sprocket cleaned and adjusted,
(smutty) sparkplug and recharged the now dead battery. Well I got it all put
back together....I took a deep breath...slid the choke over....turned the
key to on...flipped the switch to run....put my thumb to the
starter...and...fired that thumper up...my wife said my face was glowing as
a big grin spread across it....that cat purred like brand new. Sorry I
doubted you Kawasaki. Like I said earlier, I can't wait to take a nice long
trip on it.
One problem though. When I had the bike in shop I noticed that the front
forks are leaking oil. Any recommendations on repair parts are replacement.

new to the group
Hi all. I'm new to the group But I'm seeing some good stuff here.
I'll go snoop the archives so that I don't ask any redundant
questions. I'm too sore to ride today, I spent all of Monday trying
not to kill myself myself in the N.Ga. mountains. (my A13 is a
handfull in the steep,tight,twisty,slick rock)

I own a 1992 KLR 650 and I was wondering if it were possible to
change the plastic from the origional blue white to the newer green
black with out major modifications. I realize I would have to paint
the fuel tank and reupholster the seats.

Jay,
Visit www.dual-star.com . They have take-off parts and will
sell you an entire body kit for the 03 model. It inckudes the gas
tank and seat cover. I looked into it when I had an "incident" this
summer, and I think it was around $700.00.

new to the group
Hi All.
I just joined this group, as I'm looking for all the KLR information
I can. After riding a dirt bike for 15 yrs, I bought a 2001 KLR in
late 2003 - and LUV this bike! I've been riding for 36 yrs, and am
from Oregon, and I'm also on the Oregon Dual Sport Riders yahoo group.
(West Hovland is also on that Oregon group.)

ps: I got the "TOGA" from the other group, because my name is Gary A.
and there already was a Gary A. in the group. So....I did "TOGA"
for "The Other Gary A."

Welcome to the club, TOGA, Geez, 36 years riding... you must be some kinda ol' fart. Old enough to remember Paul McCartney's first band? 8^) The KLR is the ginsu knife of motorcycles, puttering down the boulevard, scooting down the slab, hammering the fire roads, and slicing through the twisties, or picking up a few groceries. And the KLR is extremely well supported in aftermarket and internet resources. Nearly 20 years of production with very few changes. Also have several vendors doing a great job supplying us with farkles.
