I think it would be more than five years ago by now. However, IIRC they did not switch _all_ batteries to Exide because Exide didn't make some of the less common sizes. It may be the case that they didn't buy some oddball batteries from Johnson in the first place; for all I know WalMart may not, either. Batteries made by JC pretty much always say so somewhere on the label; might be worth asking to see one of the WalMart motorcycle batteries just to check. For all we really know, it could be a Yuasa.

Sorry, I misspoke. I'm aware that smaller batteries come dry with a container of acid. When I said that mail order shops usually ship them without acid, I meant without the container of acid. I couldn't find a local auto shop that would sell the acid, but did find a bike shop that filled the batt for free. Not sure what the shipping restrictions are on battery acid... The USPS won't ship sulfuric acid in concentrations over 50%, and battery acid is about 35%, I think. But then, the USPS says they won't ship liquid corrosives that are more than 15% concentrated, and they have to be less than 1 pint. Don't know about UPS. Krokko -- Dr. J. Well most auto parts stores are nothing more than a larger Walmart automotive sections these days, a battery store should sotck and sell battery acid, or at least they did a few years back. Any old time Farmers supply type store might carry is also. I was only pointing out the battery is dry for shipping, thats all. Pretty sure UPS ships it, but might be restricted to ground service only, where we all know takes forever it seems thesedays, unless your paying some crazy amount. My wife picked up a pile of old bike mags for me. May 1998, Rider Mag."an electric start 500cc thumper should ideally have the starter motor and battery of a 4 cylinder, 2 litre car, and that's out of the question due to weight and size limitations". Another article states you should be able to stop from 30 MPH in 45 feet. The "new" KLR was $4750 US Steve
