wtb seat

Post by Cautious61 » Wed Mar 21, 2012 8:49 pm

hi everyone I've been a lurker here for several years. I ride an 05 with about 35,000 miles. i'm going to try my hand at building a seat that fits my butt better than the stock version, so,.. I'm looking for a seat I can experiment with, condition doesn't really matter, even just a solid pan would work. If you have one you'd like to get rid of on the cheap,.. please shoot me a message. clayc@...

hard starting, enrichener (choke) adjustment question

Post by David Nichols » Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:44 am

I had my 1997 KLR650 running 2 nights ago. It started and idled fine. I had it cut out around 50 MPH twice that night but it restarted both times. When I tried to start it the next day it would fire after cranking a long time but I never got it to run. When it did fire, it blew white smoke from the exhaust. I couldn't get it to stay running even by twisting the throttle. Do you think it was flooded? I am having a hard time adjusting the enrichener cable. If I take most of the play out at the handlebar lever, I can't move the lever very far, less than half the travel of the lever. If I adjust it so the lever moves the full range, the cable end fitting has about a half inch play where it goes into the lever housing. It's a Motion Pro cable. Do you think my starting problem has to do with the cable adjustment, or do I have another issue? Background: Bike has 13,000 miles, was sitting for 5 years, just rebuilt it, just cleaned the carb by removing the main and pilot jets and cleaning, new anti-backfire diaphragm, the slide diaphragm is good, etc. I'm sure I have no fuel supply issue, the petcock is working. I have clear fuel hose and can see it flowing. New spark plug, just adjusted the valves to max clearance. Thanks, -David [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
