stalling when adding power from idle

Post by jgormley123 » Sat Jan 07, 2012 2:39 pm

Out the blue I have a new problem.. Went to start the bike today after sitting for 1 week (in Rhode Island).. Started fine with full choke.. after then normal warmup... It would stall out when I tried to remove choke or add power... Opened Gas Cap in case of a vacuum lock.. didn't help.. After running for 5 minutes the problem went away.. So I went riding for several hours.. During the ride.. no problem... Then at the last stop the bike sat for 10 minutes.. and the problem came back... Why would adding power stall out the bike? The bike was running and warmed up... just sat for a few minutes... I need to let it idle for 5 minutes again.. and I was able to make the ride home... Something needs to be fixed...not sure what?

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> My wild guess is something is in the float bowl and getting suck against the pilot jet. With the engine running the pilot jet is always trying to suck fuel. If something blocks the jet orifice it can be held there until the engine is shut off. Then it has a chance to sink which clears the pilot jet orifice. I suppose a guy could try draining the float bowl. There is a small screw (uses and allen wrench) for the drain on the right side of the float bowl. Some folks put a hose on the drain nipple and collect the fuel and gunk. Others just drain the fuel onto the engine. That's what I'd check first if I was working this issue. If that didn't make a change I'd pull the float bowl and clean it and the pilot jet. First, drain the float bowl to get rid of any accumulated condensation. Next, I would look to a blocked pilot jet. Try some SeaFoam, Berrymans or yamaha carb cleaner. If that doesn't help, you may have to clean the pilot jet manually.

Same problem as everyone else that improperly stores their bike. Put the gas on reserve, open bottom of carb and let flush for 30 seconds or so. Everything back to norm, go ride! ALWAYS drain carb if the bike is going to sit for a few days or more. E

Thanks, David. I was hoping a salvaged newer assembly would be plug-and-play... - Mike

Not quite sure what you're trying to do but if you want the push to cancel turn signal capability you can get the following switch from Fred at Arrowhead Motorsports: Left Hand Plug n Play Switch Part number 16-0030. Look under KLR electrical parts. You will need the mirror and choke relocation bracket, which is good to have anyways. > >Link-> http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/parts_frames.html > >--- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "mjmrider" wrote: >> >> Anyone know if the E-model switchgear can be transplanted to the A-model? >> >> Thanks, >> - Mike >> > > > > >
