You could call your bike "Lucky". The bike would appreciate that. They have feelings, too. Take care and keep on riding, Deks, Croatia _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Dale, I've read that if you wear nothing else, wear a helmet, gloves, and boots. You had all of those covered and sound like you are better off for it! Signing off to go to Mid-Ohio. Hope to see some of you there. Wave at the blue KLR and black Electra Glide traveling together. (I'll be the guy dressed in yellow. Somehow after all these stories I don't feel like such a geek. That's ok, my Harley buddy will take care of that... BTW, he wears leathers and a shortie helmet (Not a beanie.) Ralph And hey, folks, let's be careful out there. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dale Johnson Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 12:34 AM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Biker down Yesterday on my way to work I was doing 70 in the carpool lane on the 60 freeway in so cal. I hit a car jack and my front tire went flat immediately. I could not control the bike and was heading towards the wall. I was slowing down as quickly as possible I finally lost it when I was doing 30. When I went down all I could think was that someone was going to run me over. So before I even stopped sliding I jumped up and ran towards the wall.. Nobody hit my bike or me. I have some road rash on my arm and leg and have some bruised ribs. 3 people stopped within the first minute after I fell the first one called the police. The second asked me if i needed to call someone so i called my wife and told her i was ok but was in an accident. The 3rd had a pickup and offered to put my bike in it and get me out of the middle of the freeway. Well He did more than that we wrestled the bike in the back of his truck and when we were driving he offered to take me home (about 30 miles in the opposite direction he was going ). Well I ended up just having him drop me and my bike off at the hospital near my house. Ohh The bike is ok too I think. I snapped a bolt on the peg-mounting bracket and broke a blinker light. But that's about it.. Thanks for letting me ramble. A friend hit a deer in Central TX on his motorcycle. 8 broken ribs, broken collar bone, possible hip fracture with cuts and scrapes (but he is alive). If you hunt, shoot them all. One of the biggest hazards to bike riders. Deer are all over the place. They are even on the fringes of Dallas / Ft. Worth these days wiggling their dumb ears. Ron Criswell

Dear All, As winter approaches deer move to winter grounds, consequently there are many more deer crossing roads (and yes there are bazillions more deer in the world because we humans create good habitat for deer and give them lots of corn fields to feed on). Everyone should be extra cautious at this time of year during the day, evenings and even the middle of the night. And be especially careful where woodlands come close to both sides of the road providing cover for deer to cross. Slow down keep your eyes open extra wide and stay safe! Yes and I might add, most people think you are in danger primarily at night. I just talked to my friend in the hospital. He never remembers hitting the deer. and it happened about 10:30 A.M. southwest of Austin. I have had them trot across the road in mid day summer heat. Our drought has been so bad this year they say they are looking for water. It is probably a good idea to pay close attention where they put up those animal crossing or deer crossing signs. A buddy came with in 10 feet of hitting an Elk on I-40 near Flagstaff and near one of those crossing signs on his Bandit doing 90 mph. His flag would have been half mast had that happened. Criswell

Last Saturday, a buck crossed the road at a dead run about 100 ft ahead of me. I saw him coming out of the corn about 100 ft, from the road, so he was no threat, but if the cover is closer to the road, or if he runs right into my side (they will do that) I might never see him coming. One more time: A bounty, not a season.

Damn... I wish there was deer galore in California. Finding a legal buck is next to impossible after season opener... I should come "help" you guys out with your situation. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
