Just joined the list. I recently purchased a 2001 KLR650 and have been modifying it as fast as my wallet and time allow. I sold a '95 BMW R1100GS in favor of the KLR. The GS is a great bike and it was difficult to part with it but I like riding off-road and I was doing things with the GS I had no business doing with a thing that heavy. So I shed 150 lbs. by getting the KLR and I'm smiling now on roads where I used to be gritting my teeth. I may have to get a second bike to do two-up touring though. jlabate Photography and Intermedia School of Art University of Arizona phone 520.621.8938 fax 520.621.2955

Welcome Joe, I did the same thing basically. I sold a '92 KLR in '95 and bought an R11GSA and put 50 thousand miles on it in 3 years on all kinds of roads and trails that I could get the beast up or down. Then traded it off on a '97 R11RA and bought a couple DR350SE's which did really great locally and in the mountains but sucked for the 400 plus miles it takes to get from here to the Ozarks ( closest mountains of any size from the Swamps down here) and then sold the DR's off and got a 2000 KLR . Talk about a full circle. ha ha ha Andy Cajun Country -- Best Regards & Happy Trails Andy Chesley @ 57 and ticking in Jennings in SW Louisiana Y2KLR650 @ 8+K sMiles 97 R11RA (Amiga) @ 16+K sMiles So Many Roads, So Little Time http://deltech.net/~aches/

Hi List, I recently bought a KLR 650 from '89. It has 26.000 km on the speedo and is looking good. My basic knowledge about electronics and/or mechanics is there, but specific maintenance, I have too get it outof a book. So, i bought the maintenance manual, in German. This is hard too read, so i was wondering, does anyone have a maintenance manual from Kawasaki (in english, not Japanese) itself, and is it clear, are there pictures in it, or drawings, as in the German manual. Also would i like to know, what is a "bar snake". I have no idea. Also i would like to thank, everybody for suppling me with information. So far i got more info from you guys (and girls) then from the manual. Thanx. Sebastian A3 Dutchie [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Have you ever been so shit faced you had to crawl to the john to hurl, and on the way some asshole steps on your fingers as he passes you, then slams the shitter door in your face. That's a bar snake. So I've been told. -- bierdo Sebastiaan van Polen wrote:

Welcome! I'm a newbie to this list and KLR650's of about 3 weeks, and all the good stuff you've heard is certainly true. I've been impressed with the fast and courteous responses I've had to what are probably some rather pathetic newbie questions... Mark St.Hilaire, Sr A15 HomePage: http://home.adelphia.net/~msaint/

Hello, My name is Jim Davis. I am a new member to this group, and I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself. I am the proud owner of a 1989 KLR650. I live in Virginia Beach ,Virginia but I grew up in the "stix" of Spotsylvania County, Va where I started off-road riding at age 6. I have raced Motocross and Supercross and have either owned or have riden almost every bike imaginable, but my favorite is of course the Kawasaki KLR650. For that reason, I am really excited about being a part of this group! Jim Davis

Welcome Jim! This is certainly the place to be, especially if you want to know about oil, politics, shopping carts, etc. In addition to all this important stuff, there is also an enormous wealth of experience and knowledge to be found here; these people have "held my hand" through all kinds of stuff, and my KLR hasn't blow up yet! This is the certainly the place to be for KLR "doings." Good to have you with us. Mark St.Hilaire, Sr msaint@...
