Jeff,
I'm wondering if you have the Dual Star bash plate too. The stock
shifter hits the bash plate mount when I try to rotate it, so I tried
the IMS shifter. The IMS did the same thing until I ground it to fit
around the mount, but it's not quite enough. Does the Dual Star
shifter clear the frame and bash plate mount; does it fit within the
indentation in the tranny cover like the stock unit?

Great point Dave. I'd never even thought about that. I've had great luck
with the Moose skid plate; impeding shifting or rear brake action has never
been a concern...which is obviously something to consider when fitting
footpegs.
Cheers,
Scott

Dave,
I do have a Dual Star skid plate with the Dual Star shifter and the DR650
footpegs. They all fit well and work well together on my bike. The end
of the Dual Star shifter has the neat little plate to help prevent the
shifter from puncturing the case when you go down on the left side. It
does move along the radiused indentation on the case. I seem to recall a
friend of mine had a problem with the Dual Star shifter in that it was
hitting his case. But that was 1 1/2 years ago and I don't think I got
involved in the repair. I just seem to remember he had an issue.
Best,
Jeff

I installed the footpegs from the DR650, and they seem the same height as the stockers. No problems shifting.

I'd have to concur with Chris,
I love my DR650 foot pegs. I've had them on now for about 2 months, and
wonder why it took me so long to buy a set. I even gave a pair to a friend
of mine.

I'm gonna use them in an experiment to see if I can make them pivot and change the location of the pegs in relation to where the stock pegs are placed. I've talked to a few folks recently that were interested in pivoting pegs but weren't interested in spending about $150 for a pair. I think you may be remembering Pivot Pegz but the last time I checked maybe a month ago they weren't available for the KLR. I have a set of PivotPegs on my 06. I was hesitant when I ordered them over the cost, but now I wouln't own a motorcycle without them. It felt pretty weird for the first 4 or 5 miles having the pegs rotate when I moved, but once I got used to the sensation I would never go back to stock pegs. I think they are a wonderful idea and a wonderful improvement. The upside is you will feel much more connected to the motorcycle, especially when off-road. The downside is the cost and that you now have one more pivot point to clean and grease during maintenance, but the benefits definitely outweight the costs.

won't start when warm
DIELECTRIC GREASE
When ever you change a buld on a car/truck etc. you see a grease, it's Dielectric grease.
Made for elecrical conections, helps stop Oxidising etc., of electrical conections.

I finally got around to this! The starter circuit solenoid clicks, but the starter solenoid does not. I unplugged the two wire plug into the starter solenoid and verified I have power to it when pressing the start button. When I plugged it back in, I now see that it will start if I'm pressing the plug in, but not if I let it go. I'm going to try a little contact cleaner as soon as I find it in the garage, but at least I know where the problem is. Appears to be the mechanical connection into the starter solenoid. It's under that rectangular black plastic cover down on the left, above where the sidestand interlock lives. You can reach down there without leaving your seat and give the solenoid a finger wave that will reestablish contact and the bike will start. For a more permanent fix, pull the solenoid out of its rubber mount so you can get at the main terminals and the trigger terminal.
