Subject: Footpeg replacements?
Anyone know if there are any more aggressive off-road style footpegs
that will mount on the KLR? In particular, is there something from
another Kawasaki or other manufacturer model that fits? I want to
grab something from a local dealer tomorrow if possible.

I am using cleated footpegs for a 1995 Suzuki DR650. They were an easy replacement, and cost only $38.12 at the local dealer's parts counter. No more slipping off the rubber pegs when encountering water.

I just went to a bike junkyard and looked in their box of old pegs and found a couple of steel ones that fit. I am interested in a better grip footpeg, too. I had already heard
that the DR650 fit. That has been mentioned tonight. But while I
was checking the after market I found that LIMS Products at $64.95
fits all KLR650s and KDX200s from 83-94. I don't know dealer prices
but the KDX should be easy to find in salvages. I even owned an 84
200 years ago.

Dennis,
I've never used the IMS footpegs and hear they're a bit wider than stock
or most aftermarket pegs. That gives your foot better support but also
moves your foot closer to the shifter when upshifting. If you have large
feet that could be a problem.
Last year someone on the list suggested using footpegs from a Suzuki
DR650???? I did a group buy for a bunch of friends and we are all very
please with the results. Most of the bikes we changed pegs on did some
to all of the Great Divide Ride from Canada to Mexico last summer. A
couple of times I'm sure the pegs made all the difference in being able
to ride through some of the muck we encountered. If I recall correctly
we paid about $32 for two footpegs (left and right) and two springs. It
takes almost a minute to change from the stock pegs to the DR pegs. Part
numbers I used were:
43560-44B10-019 peg
43550-44B10-019 other peg
09448-15008 (you need two of these) springs
If I was doing the purchase today I'd check with the dealer on price and
realize availability may be three weeks out and also check with
www.ronayers.com .

Hi All
I found I had the same problem with the IMS pegs, the
Dual Star shifter and my size 14 Alpine Stars. I had
to switch to a longer IMS shifter from Fred and cut
the front "loop" off the pegs. Next time I would buy
the DR 650 pegs instead.

my buddy bought ims footpegs and they are a lot higher than the stock
ones. it makes it hard to shift, the shift lever is from dual-star.
so would it be better to order my footpegs from dual star to match my
shifter? i know the shifter can be adjusted, i have moved it up and
down but each is too much. i just need some lower profile footpegs.

Seth,
I suggest you try footpegs from a Suzuki DR650. Cost is about $35 or so
for two pegs and two springs. It takes about one minute per side to swap
them out with the stock pegs using the existing pins. What you need are:
1 each right footpeg part number 43550-44B10-019
1 each left footpeg part number 43560-44B10-019
2 each spring part number 09448-15008
I have this set up on my bike and also have a Dual Star shifter. Works
very well for me.
