riding areas

Post by Dan Pauley » Tue Feb 25, 2003 11:48 am

Wish I had some more advice on close riding areas. I live in Mt. Vernon OH and looking for some places to explore myself as well as take my Sons this summer. I want them to fall down and get hurt. I don't want them Kilt by a swarm of crazed fourwheeler ATV's Drop me a note off list and I'll share all the things I've collected about various riding areas in exchange for any thing you find out. You must have a special permit to ride in Wayne NF. (plus USFS approved spark arrester) This much I know. To get the permit you have to have a License tag or OHV tag if off road only. To get an OHV tag you need a title. To get a title you need either the original Bill of sale or have the vehicle inspected and the request a title. Spendy proposition to get the little state of ohio sticker. On a separate note why doesn't some computer savey person make up some kind of database for riding areas. Would be great if someone like the AMA would do this and keep it active. I'd love to know of places to camp and ride, public and private. free and fee. Have any of you traveled on the trails in Wayne National Forest? I purchased my KLR650-A17 at the beginning of the month and am itching to ride. 68 miles of trails sounds fun and I was wandering if you know of any riding groups in the area. I am new to the motorcycling community, except the last few month reading this newsgroup, and thought I'd try to meet up with experienced riders in my area. I am having a blast riding the KLR. Thanks again for helping me choose this comfortable bike. I'm taking my time learning on the backroads of the surrounding countryside of Athens and Vinton County. Went to AMA direct and found this: Ohio: No state organization, however, several very active state clubs working on various issues. Daniel Boone National Forest issues: Ohio Valley Trail Riders, Scott Whitford, (513) 755-0928, swhitford@..., Wayne National Forest Issues: Hocking Valley Trail Riders, Tom Cowher, (740) 964-0089. State forests and township roads: Buckeye Dual Sporters, Bill Kaeppner (613) 385-3885, kaeppner.nohvcc@....

Next week I've scratched off the days on my calendar and I'm going dirt bik'n. Headed out Friday after work for points south. Meeting up with my son near Greenville SC and from there???? Looking for easy dual sport riding and camping areas that are motorcycle friendly. Would appreciate any links or personal knowledge of good areas to try out. So you know all riders believe in mufflers and riding to enjoy not kill the place with loud pipe and deep ruts. Thanks, Dan / \ Cabin Fever = mandatory, medicinal, motorcycle maneuvers
