BACK TO THE PAINT QUESTION:
2. So...does anyone know whatever method: paying for it (it's been a
while--ha!) or doing it myself (okay skip that one), I could use to
effectively paint the engine?
How about the exhaust?
Thanks for any advice,
Jaime in MN.
I've tried alot of hi-temp paints thru the years on engine and exhaust parts
with varying results. Then a Harley
Guy named Jessie James told me plain old black BBQ works the best him, I
tried it and it does for me too!

I've rarely seen the KLR's painted--------It takes some special
paint work to make it stick to the plastic--------however painting a
plastic tank will not work-----period !!! Gasoline fumes permeated
(penetrate) the plastic and off comes the paint. I've tried putting
stickers on plastic tanks------it will stay on for a while and then off
it comes.
Boy I was sent a picture of a KLR that somebody painted
yellow----it was beautiful. I can't have a pretty painted one----I'd
just scratch it all up.

I can report excellent results by any standard. Using BULLDOG ADHESION PROMOTOR product # ETPO-123 You can get this at one of the chain auto parts stores. I have seen it in several. Sand your plastic, spray a couple of coats of this bulldog on and then several coats of your favorite color spray enamel. I used Hardhat spray enamal on the front fender and and right shroud Right handgaurd. Resist all abuses Even after a year. And daily coverings with a dowco cover. The other plastic I used black bumper trim. Ecellent results there. It just takes longer to cure and then resist the gasoline. If I did it all over I'd use only black spray enamel with the bulldog. It flexes well and resists the scratches. I even used the bulldog to spray under the seat and now my velcro sticks well. No unbolting my seat! My Barbie has gone stealthy black for a year now. A few spills in the florida sands and of course all the brush, The plastic shows few hints of the ugly color it once was. In fact the Bulldog is so good somebody might put it in the FAQ one day...> is there a list anywhere of factory paint codes? is painting the > fairing different from the side panels and fenders? another post > says the ims tank may be difficult to paint. any input here? > thanks A4
