It will not fit I have tried. You can get a modified plate with the high rise for the pump for $82.50. Tim

I was wondering if a skidplate for a klx650R would also fit a klr 650. I am able to purchase one for around $55.00 and just want to be sure they match up. As always thanks for all your help, Buzzard,Elizabeth Co

No, probably won't fit at all. 99% of KLX parts won't fit the KLR. You can get skid plates for the KLR for $60. Devon feenstra899@... wrote:

Hi All, It's been a while since I have been in this message group so I am sure I have missed a lot. I remember that somebody was making a great aluminum Skid Plate that was custom made for the KLR that had great protection for the water pump and the left side of the engine case. I can't seem to find it. I sure would appreciate it if somebody could point me in the right direction. Thanks, ~Dennis~ Concord, NC A15

I dont know about a "custom" skid plate, but arrowhead and dual star both sell a heavy duty skid plate

I'm ready to purchase and install an aluminum skid plate on my 2002 650 KLR I've kind of narrowed it down to either a Happy Trails skid plate of a White Bros skid plate. Any comments on the quality, secure mounting, protection or ?? of these two skid plates. Or is there a better skid plate than either of these. What do you have, what's good/bad about your plate. thanks in advance Doug Pippin

Hey there Doug, I recognize you from the Hawk List. I've got the Happy Trails plate, it's well secured and reasonably beefy, though I (or the previous owner) have yet to test it offroad. From the FAQ: "Where do I get a better skid plate? Utha Sport Motorcycle makes the most popular skidplate for the KLR. In addition to selling direct, their skidplates are sold by Moose, MSR and Happy Trails. (White Brothers has theirs made elsewhere.) The problem is that USM now trims their plates for use with centerstands; this leaves the rear of the engine case unprotected. Happy Trails can weld an extension back on. You can also use the KLX650 skidplate from DG Baja Designs, but it requires relocation of the mounting holes, and doesn't cover the left engine case as well. I think they are all made by the same company, Utah motorsports or something like that.
