Depends on what type of alarm you're talking about. If it is just a noisemaker... well - out here in CA, nobody investigates car alarms because they are so frequent.

I have a disk alarm made by.....err.....well....Xena. It ain't the loudest thing at 100 db but it's better than nothing. At the very least the disk lock is going to slow them down a tad.

have my bike alarmed with one of the gorilla alarms simple to install and the default settings for it are just right ive found found a good place for the alarm too that so far seems to be solid although if you know about the alarm being on the bike would be pretty easy to disable it. email me if you want to know any details about setting one up paul A16

Just don't bother. They run your battery down, they usually end up the reason why you can't get the bike to start one day after filling up in a petrol station 30miles from home at 2 am. If you bike is taken then the alarm is not much of a deterrent as most people have learnt to ignore them. In the UK the alarm systems that get you savings on insurance etc usually have to be 3yrs old then you need to fit an alarm, the savings don't outweigh the cost. Spend your money on a ground anchor and a fsking big lock. If your out you just need to chain it up correctly with a good lock. Jack

I take reasonable precautions and make sure my insurance is paid up.  Life's too short to fret about that stuff.  Besides, if they steal it... PS. The Motion detector, will tell you if someoen is messing with your gear, saddle bags etc.  also, Not just stealing the bike.

This really isn't much of a deterrent for a determined thief but I use a cover (3/4 version) when I park the bike for any length of unattended time. I feel that a cover keeps idle eyes & minds from 'assessing' the value of what might be in the side bags, tank bag, panniers, glove box or the bike itself (all they see are muddy wheels & tires). Also, I don't park it in a dark corner at the motel, etc when on a trip. Don R100, A6F

Hi Gerry I have a Zena wheel lock/alarm combination which works good. The wheel lock imobilize the bike while the motion activated alarm would deter, warn you including the important riding off scenario with the lock still on the bike and a buch of guys watching as you wipe out.
