The entire wind deflection thing is very unique to each person. I've tried a shole series of deflectors, windscreens, helmets and helmet mods. I can't find anything that really works. There is always a trade off. Depending on your heigth, the way you sit in the saddle, your helmet and your personal taste, the solution varies. Last year I bolted, glued and taped rubber sheeting and plesdiglass all over my KLR and it was prettty comfy. This year I have boots, insulated riding pants, a face mask and a thicker jacket. The best thing is warm weather. Even a total fairing gives up something. My absolute favorite is no screen and ear plugs. For cold I wear more clothing.

I am 6' tall and have the lip. It helps with helmet buffeting. My friend tried it and he is 6'2" and he said it was not as much help to him. maxtork1957 wrote: Has anyone tried the "Lip"? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I have a Laminar Lip on my 08 KLR (stock windshield).   Before I installed it (actually before I committed to buying it) I did a trip to the Atlantic from Toronto (little over 5000km) and cursed the whole way for not having installed one.  Neck strain, buffeting, wind noise (yes -- even with earplugs). This summer I rode some 23.3 thousand km through North and South America with the LL and was very pleased with it.  I did have to "glue" it on with RTV silicon as the sticky thinks eventually came untacked   I am a hair shy of 6" and have a flat Corbin which probably drops me an inch over stock seat, while seated.  I am using a Shoei Hornet and the wind seems to clear the peak/visor just enough so that it doesn't catch like a kite.  Other than that I would say that I wouldn't mind if my laminar/windshield combo was made taller in some way. The only other comparison I can make is that I used one of the slightly taller after market windshields and sold it pretty quickly as it didn't help much. Adam

Attachments :     I normally don't forward stuff. But, this one's too close to home - literally.
Motorcyclists by the hundreds (including myself and many friends) travel to the area described each weekend. Click on the "watch the video" link and see for yourself what misguided gov't spending can do. FDR is the largest park in Georgia and in the national registry of historical places.   I asked one of the "officials" behind this endeavor how they planned on introducing the pines once the hardwoods were eliminated. Would they be planting trees or just let nature take over? The answer was simple. They'd let nature take over. Funny. Back before WWII, a large portion of the mountain was cut for timber. The few pines they planted remain. But, hardwoods dominated. Now they want to burn the place down and let it return to a "natural state". Isn't that what it is now?? They say they are restoring the long leaf pine. Yet many areas never had any. They have hardwoods. For decades to come, if this plan continues, the place will be a rocky, burned-out mess. It boils down to this: They have money to spend- our money - to take a beautiful park and burn it to the ground just to say they spent it on a state project. Geez.   Thanks for your time.   eddie hall Columbus, Ga.     #ygrps-yiv-284891456 A:hover { } #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456header H1 { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;FONT:bold 22px/24px Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;COLOR:#d7e2c0;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456header P { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;FONT:16px/16px Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;COLOR:#8da757;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456content H2 { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;FONT-WEIGHT:bold;FONT-SIZE:17px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;COLOR:#51652a;LINE-HEIGHT:30px;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456content P { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;FONT-WEIGHT:normal;FONT-SIZE:12px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;COLOR:#5e5a4a;LINE-HEIGHT:20px;PADDING-TOP:0px;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456content A { COLOR:#0eb6ce;TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456footer P { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;COLOR:#c0c0c0;PADDING-TOP:0px;TEXT-ALIGN:center;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456footer A { COLOR:#efe08e;BORDER-BOTTOM:#efe08e 1px dotted;TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456notice P { PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:0px;PADDING-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN:0px;COLOR:#ffffff;PADDING-TOP:0px;TEXT-ALIGN:center;} #ygrps-yiv-284891456 .ygrps-yiv-284891456notice A { COLOR:#efe08e;BORDER-BOTTOM:#efe08e 1px dotted;TEXT-DECORATION:none;}   Stop the Burning.

SAVE PINE MOUNTAIN. Dear friend of the Pine Mountain Trail, The Pine Mountain Trail Association (PMTA) needs your help in stopping the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) from its widespread and destructive burning of Pine Mountain at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park. Please watch the video for the full story, or read our 2010 Report to the Community. As keepers and preservers of the park s 43 miles of hiking trails, the PMTA is very concerned about the magnitude and recklessness of the DNR s prescribed burns. These controlled fires are damaging mature hardwood habitats, causing erosion problems on slopes, defacing large sections of the Pine Mountain Trail, and wrecking heavily used campsite areas. Even more staggering, the DNR s long-term goal for the 9,045-acre state park is to transform the natural forest dominated by oak and hickory trees into a montane (mountain) longleaf pine ecosystem. In order to accomplish this ambitious feat, the DNR must kill as many hardwood trees more than 85% of the forest as possible to make room for the wholesale restoration of longleaf pine. This is a very serious matter. In its quest to regenerate longleaf pine, the DNR has completely ignored the recreational value, aesthetic beauty, and historic integrity of the public land. Please help us send a powerful message to the DNR Board and relevant elected officials that the people who care about the mountain, the hiking trails and the state park oppose the DNR s harmful fires and long-term plan for Roosevelt State Park. Please click here to access the PMTA web site and participate in our grassroots campaign to Stop the Burning. SAVE PINE MOUNTAIN. Please pass on this email to other people. A big outpouring from the community will go a long way in helping the cause. Thank you for caring about Pine Mountain, the Pine Mountain Trail and Roosevelt State Park!
