I looked them up on the web and they seem to have a seat that would fit your needs. They are expensive, but I'm sure you get what you pay for. They also have the option of a backrest for the driver (even on a KLR). It might be worth a look. I'm even considering one for next season. Ross Lindberg Fertile, MN

seat question
I love my Russell seat. Very expensive, but worth it. It gets a little warm
sitting on it in the summer, so I find a beaded seat cover helps.
The rain cover they sold with it ($40) is a joke - sort of a large shapeless
shower cap. It won't stay on the seat when trailering or riding, but
probably would if it's just parked.
I think the seat is worth it.

It does if you use enough duct tape.
Sorry, I couldn't pass it up. I have no idea.

idle mixure screw adjustment
I'm sure you meant this to go to the whole list. I have had numerous KLR
carbs apart and all have had their air screws set from Kawasaki around 7/8
turn out but they are all a little different. The range that the pilot jet
is effective is between 1/2 and 3 turns. Outside of those settings and it
would be best if you changed your pilot jet. Less than 1/2 turn would need
a size smaller jet and more than 3 turn would benefit from a size larger
pilot jet.

The difference is that the 08 and later KLR has an extra mounting point on the front side of the seat and the 07 and earlier doesn't. You could put an early model on a late model KLR and it will fit, the only "issue" may be that the seat is loose in the front. Putting a late model seat on an early model KLR could scratch the tank where this front mounting point is on the seat.

seat question
If the slotted front mounting point is the drawback, I could see a Dremel removing it and a small block of rubber glued in it's place, yes? =) eddie
