Only thing to add is that the dipped seat seams to be an either you like it or hate it because the of how the dip fits your rear while the flat Corbin avoids that problem. For my own tastes both seats, as well as any other aftermarket KLR seat, are too wide for off roading. The width that makes them comfortable prevents you griping the middle of the bike with your legs, which is a very important thing to be able to do in the dirt. I tried a friend's bike with the dipped Corbin they aren't for me. I got the flat Corbin which I only use when I'm going for long road trips. This weekend I did a 300 mile ride to Bass lake to do a two day dual sport ride and then the 300 miles back home, all with the stock seat. The stuff they got us into would have been all the harder with either Corbin, glad I had the OEM seat so I could squeeze with my legs to hang on in the boulder fields they had us riding through. Later this moth I'll do a 2000 miles, four day ride up to the Columbia River and for that trip I'll use the Corbin and live with its width if I go offroading. Even though I may only use my Corbin for a couple of rides a year I am darn glad I got it for those rides. Pat G'ville, Nv [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I had a flat Corbin that was a great improvement on the street, but that I didn't like so much for riding off road. Then again, this too depends on your height. Guys taller than me (6'2") might find the flat Corbin no obstacle. -Lujo [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I'd have to say I concour with pretty much all the observations here. I'll add this though. I've ridden on both Corbin designs and find the dipped to be the clear winner. I'm 5'8" so the added bonus of being closer to the ground and narrow up front (for dirt) is great but you can scoot around on a dipped seat just as much as on the flat. With the flat seat you change position and the seat is still the exact same contour. With the dipped, there's all kinds of different angles to perch your ass on, including the rear which is the same as a flat, all of which makes a really big difference.

One year ago I bought a used A13 (1999 model) with 3350 miles on it. At the time, I thought the seat was reasonably comfortable. Now, a year later, after riding for around 30 miles or so, it feels like I'm sitting on a piece on concrete. I'm not sure if my body changed during the last year or if it is the seat, or a combination of the two. Any one know if the seat of the KLR loses it after five years, or what. I usually do 20 to 50 mile rides, I'd like to go farther if time permitted - about 50% pavement, 40% forest service gravel, 10% dirt biking it in the rough. I'm 5' 11", 170 lbs. What should I be looking at for a seat upgrade? Build a new one on the original seat pan or go with a new after market one or what? Any suggestions appreciated. Bill VT

Bill VT Hey Bill I had the same thing with my seat. I finally shelled out for the Corbin flat seat and now I can ride as far as I want with out pain. I don't know how tall you are but the Corbin makes the bike feel higher. With the stock seat you like sit into it,Know what I mean? Like the way you sit on a mx bike. You may want to look at the dished seat, just depends on your inseam. Good luck. Howard A-18 List sponsored by Dual Sport News at www.dualsportnews.com. The Japanese are VERY good at selling to Americans. They know that in the show room big fat Aerican ass will sit on seat and look for soft plushness. I rode my 87klr for several years w/ the stock seat and did suffer greatly on trips of 100 miles or more. I used to stand up and let lady passenger scratch my ass vigoursley to make me feel better! My used 95 came w/ a dished corbin and now I can ride for as long as I want. From experience I have found the dished corbin to be good for dirt or urban combat. Not so good for carry a passenger. (my passengers have been big boned ladies, I'm skinny) If I knew I was going to carry another person I'd probabley go w/ a flat corbin. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "billshel2003" wrote:

I want to replace my stock seat and was wondering if anyone has used the gel seat kit from dual star? They are priced at $129.95. Or do you think the flat corbin seat is the better choice?
