Hi all!
Just thought I'd introduce myself: my name's Dmitri,
I'm from Corpus Christi area, and I'm a proud new
owner of a '99 KLR 650 (that's in addition to my
Yamaha XJ 750). Took it on a beach this morning, it's
a total blast! Looking forward to the list experience
and many enjoyable rides.
D.

Actually you'll like it better than an entry-level Buell
Congrats on your KLR purchase, and you'll find lots of good info at
this place if you can avoid the NKLR threads!

Gee, those of us in Cold, snow-bound Massachusetts sure appreciate you sharing the fact that you were riding on the beach this morning! (Laughing) We're under about 3 feet of snow here in Cheshire! (Literally, or very close to it.) Just kidding of course, except, unfortunately, about the snow. Welcome to the KLR, and our KLR list community! In addition to the regular stuff, if there is anything you'd like to know about oil, guns, politics or sexual orientation this is the perfect place to ask... Sorry to hear about all the snow and cold where you are Mark. Guess I
am getting some taste of it here, got down in the 40s last night, and
today it made it all the way up to the mid 60s. Had to break out the
windbreaker and summer gloves to get to work this morning
Hoping your weather improves,

2 nd oil change
#ygrps-yiv-1028904701 p {margin:0;}Ugh. Don't spend that much on oil.
You can get Rotella T6 FULL synth for 19 bucks per GALLON at Wal-Mart, and it's JASO MA certified.

I have been running petroleum base oil until now. I still had good lubricity but I had about 200 miles of dirt riding on this oil change and oil is chaep insurance. THe first time I changed the oil I found lots of little flakes of metal in the filter body this time about 10 % of the amount. I did clean the filet housing by hand to make sure that flakes that may have dropped into the filter housing area did not stay in the engine oil system. Filled with HOND HP-4 Semi synthetic. about 10 per qt at the dealer. I though this was a bit high until I went to cycle parts unlimited in garden grove. They charged more for the filter and the oil. TOtal oil aaded 2.5 q. Consumption in 1200 miles 1/2 pt ALL in the last ride with a lot of high speed freeway flogging. Not to by suprised at this. As higher rpms oil will fill abit more about the vavlguides and go bye bye. Also engine case pressure fluctuations increase at higher rpm causeing denser misting to the PVC system. Just keep an eye on it. Bike is running fine avge milage 44.3 since new. Ebginer breaking in. Last three cars all improved MPG after first 5K miles by 10 %.

Hi Kelly here from San Diego. Over the last few week I have entered the world of the KLR. I have plenty of bikes that include a 02 KTM 520 DS bike for more dirt, yz205 and 426fs for track and a collection of vintage Hodaka's. In the past all may road touring was on a 03 Harley Bagger until we sold it a couple months ago.
Now came the KLR, the 02 has all the norm mods and a few farkle's. I have been on a few street rides and really like it all, but still need to learn the ins and outs of the bike.
Then came the 93 that fell into my lap for $320 bucks, yep I offered $300 but they countered $320.
Now this bike is not running and the PO was a kid that could not tell me much about when it stopped. Its not locked up but I think something is up we the doohicky. It looks like someone has been into it. I have the cover off and tomorrow will be able to pull the flywheel and start checking it all out. So I may have a ton of questions as I go.
From the looks of it and all the activity here I'm in the right spot.
Thanks Kelly
Photos of my two bikes are in the folder name socalhodaka.
