Good job Bro. Mine crashed at 20,000 miles and left six pieces floatin around in there. It vibrated like a jackhammer. I found all the chunks with a magnetic retrieval tool and installed Mikes lever. I've got nearly 32,000 miles on the Hoss now. Rod --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "ripper197022003" wrote:

Rick, Glad to hear it. Maybe you won't be so impressed when you find out that I am in Utah and not California. Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/cmc.html

We did the doohickey and spring today on my 2005 KLR. The KLR had 1950 miles on it. The stock parts were OK. I replace the sub frame bolts. Members with new bikes should check the lower sub frame bolts for torque. Mine were slightly more than finger tight. Rick

At 51xx miles I replaced the doohickey on my A18. I am not the most mechanically-inclined person on the face of this Earth, but it didn't kill me and perhaps I'm not so intimidated by the thought of cracking the case anymore. I did not replace the spring, as the one in there looked fine and I didn't want to go through another layer of case-cracking to get to it if it wasn't broken. For that matter, the original doohickey was fine. It did need adjustment though, as it turned about 15 degrees when I loosened the adjuster bolt. After installation and reassembly I put oil in it (did I mention I added the Arrowhead Magnetic drain plug?) and rode it 3 or 4 miles. Is it me, or does it sound that much different with the balancer adjusted? The engine seems 5 times smoother and quieter, but I think I detect a whine. I'm assuming the slight whine has always been there, but that balancer noise has kept me from hearing it. I also switched to Mobil 1, since I was going to drain it all out anyway... John

I live in N.Ca and just got a new KLR. Does anyone know where I could get the doohickey installed? Of course the dealer doesn't know anything about that problem. Thanks, Charlene cruiz@...

Charlene, If the bike is new and under warrenty, then you will have to buy the replacement spring and doohickey yourself and get the jacklegs at the Kaw shop to do it.IF you do it yourself and something happens to the engine....they will not want to warrenty it cause you went in the engine yourself. If the jacklegs at the Kaw shop do it.Be sure to have them save the old lever and spring and give it to you so you know they replaced it. Regards,Gary
