rim locks

One of my bikes in the early '70s had sheet metal screws at 4 places on each side of the rear wheel. Think is was the Bultaco 250 Jim Pomeroy Replica. I also did it to the next several bikes I bought. Suzook RM 250, XT500, XS650, KLR650 ('92). Andy Jennings, La. Cajun Country

Hi , what size rim locks is best for the front and rear rims? Are many people doing the front? And how does it affect balancing? GARY PARECE ,98 Concours 101k , 2001 VFR 4K mi.,2002 Suzuki DRZ 400 E, 2001 KLR 650 1K

I'm using twin rim locks on each wheel, so they balance each other out. You can ride a flat with two rimlocks, and I figured why not get something useful for the unsprung rotating mass instead of just using wheel weights. I had to use less than an ounce of weights on each wheel to finish the balance. I don't know the exact size, motion-pro makes the ones I got from dual-star. garalpar@... wrote: the

The rim widths are engraved in the rims. I think the rear is 3.50". I had two locks opposite each other but it was a real beeyotch to get tires on. I eventually moved them to about 120 degrees apart and applied a bunch of stick-on lead weights to the wheel to balance everything. RM

Changing tires with rimlocks installed is definitely a procedure, you have to do everything in a certain order. But once you get it down it takes only a couple minutes longer than without the rimlocks. I've changed out four sets with the rimlocks so far. I got a flat on the way to work a while back, and rode (with my wife and luggage on the bike) three miles to drop my wife off at the subway so she could get to work on time. The bead never came off Probably could have driven until the tire disintegrated. -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." Locks have saved my bacon once, too. Not at high-speed, though. RM

Hi, did you do both wheels? When you had both rim lock opposite each other , did you have to put wt`s in other parts of the rim? (rim lock-90, degrees over wt`s another 90 degrees rim lock and then wt`s 90 degrees later) In other word if rim locks are opposite each other wouldn`t you have two heavy spots. To me 120 rim lock, 120 rim lock, 120 wt`s , would be easier to balance. I realy have no clue, that why i`m asking the ?.Thanks for you time!!! [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
