Loose... there are all kinds of ways, im sure you will get alot of replies with details, myself if my toes pushing up on the chain from the bottom makes the chain make solid contact with the swingarm its a bit too loose, bike on side stand. My thoughts are better loose than too tight, tight has got to be hard on seals and bearings when the suspension is bottomed out when having fun, however too loose and your bike will get a vibration/rythm from the chain playing with gravity on the long stretches. Basically make sure the rear is aligned with the front so the sprockets run true to each other and keep the from either extreme of tight/loose and you should be fine. My bike was delivered from the dealer with the chain about as tight as a bass guitar string, of course couple quarter turns on each side, kick to the rear tire forward, recheck, repeat if nessesary and retighten axle.
