It does, modified. I had posted many months ago, Using a 16t, GPS V showed
much higher MPH at WOT. I am still planning to do the Dyno and Top-end run,
shielding my large carcass behind my 11+ Clearview. I am still playing with
it. Harhar.
TO date, BMW guys are shocked to see me w/ them at 100+ per GPS.
Oh, my bike is not stock. And I am not small.
Oh, our speedo is not linear in speed error. Figure 4-5 mph loss at 80 to
true road speed. It does not get much worse, on my bike at least. I have
read that some speedo's are off much worse, so GPS and proper Bike speedo's
are closer.
Look, a lot of persons are not going to like my reply, so the flames will
occur.
No wonder I stay away at times.

Your bike is overgeared. I bet it will run faster in fourth.> don`t really want to go faster than 80 mph on this bike anyway. Just > thought it would have a higher top speed . >

Judson is right on you being overgeared for top speed performance with the 16T. The 15T is about right to get optimum top speed. With pipe, airbox/filter, and jetting mods, mine gets to an honest 100mph confirmed by GPS and calibrated bicycle computer. The highest I've seen is 103, and then I back it down. I'm not sure exactly how fast it'll go because I don't care to keep it tapped out that long, but it doesn't feel like there's much left. I'm kinda impressed at how fast it gets there for the kind of bike it is--definitely no ZX12. Thad Carey A15 (lookin' like Barbie)> 2001 KLR 650 1K

The fastest i have ever been able to achieve, with a reconfiged spedo, set
back approx 7km/h and tested with driving beside a car to get accuracy, is
an indicated 185km/h in wind, down a hill.
Flat out on a calm straight road, about 165km/h or 105mph. I had a 16T&39T
sproket at the time. Now i have a 16T&43T sproket.
I'm only 5'10" and 150lbs, which probably helps, and a near empty tank of
gas(which makes a difference)
Normally i can only do max 165km/h or 103mp/h on a straight road with no
wind.
I bet i could hit 200km/h if someone dropped the bike from a plane !

I put my feet on the passanger pegs, Lay down on the tank and
look through the shield,, 100MPH and 110 at times 115 once with a tail
wind.....
I held my 2000 KLR WFO for a little over 1000 miles a couple of years ago.
Gas up and run throttle to the stop, Used about 1/4 Qt of oil,, Mobil 1

Top I have hit was 102 or 103 Mph, per the speedo, but honeslty do not
think I would have taken the time to look at a GPS that close, but
could have looked at the top speed afterwards. Im pretty sure it
would have been around the same.
This was with 15/43 gearing on a long winding road mostly used by
logging trucks, so it was not the smoothest place to be wedging the
seat up your backside.
Anything above 80 Mph indicated in my parts is way excessive normally
anyway except for passing and such.
Too many deer too close to the roadways.

Something like 101.8 or thereabouts. PER GPS. Between Grand Junction
and Delta Colorado on that beautiful stretch of new asphalt. Took
almost the full stretch to get to that, tho. 16/43 with Challengers
F&R.
millerized
that's the fastest I ever want to go on a KLR.

'08 with no drivetrain, engine, exhaust or intake mods. WFO, tucked,
and downhill... top speed on GPS is 99.1 mph. I hear only blue ones
can actually get that high without mods.
