twat ride.......
Yup suer is ... the initial mail made me splutter, the site it self brought out full on guffaws.
Twat is the lesser Anglo-Saxon vulgar term for a vagina.
In Middle English it also means a fool or idiot.
In Colloquial English it can mean all the above as well as in northern areas of England to hit or destroy something... also to be used as an adjective for being very drunk to the level of babbling drooling inebriation or exhausted by erm... horizontal pleasures... .e.g. ...twatted
So which twat thought up the name then ?

Ahhh so it does translate
Had to explain it to 'merkins before... same as the difference between a bolllocking and bollocks and that you don't call football soccer in the real world, and that ale comes in bottles and not from hand pumps
All those years of subtlety ironic BBC comedy shows on PBS must be finally rubbing off

Real ale is a catch-all phrase for non pasteurised beer with some live
yeast still in it.
Brown and pale ales can muddy the water in this definition but real beer
comes from the cask into a jug and is poured out into an imperial pint
glass at room temperature... all the taste and no waste
Ales round here are stronger beers brewed to be transported overseas to
fuel the old Empire, usually in bottles. And by round here I mean
Derby/Burton on Trent
One of the great capitals of traditional
brewing. We have a lot of what now get called micro breweries but have
been a tradition in this area for hundreds of years. I know of five pubs
within an evenings stroll that brew their own on the premises and the
majority of pubs in the city centre sell beer from even more local
breweries as well as standards such as Bass and Pedigree(now brewed by
Coors and a shadow of it's former greatness)from the jug and assorted
fine brews from Europe.
We don't see much of the micro stuff from t'other side of the pond as it
it is still considered to be little better than "home brew" and doesn't
sell. But like New world wines infiltrating the cellars of the snobs,
people are trying them... you really need to develop a decent IPA
tradition to tempt the jaded pallets over here with your exports
