sold my klr today

I was wondering if any one on the list has the Kawasaki extended height windshield and how it compares to some of the aftermarket ones available?

I've owned manly sport bikes and have decided to be a little more adventurous and go back to dual sport. I have a 01" KLR650 and am 5'8". So far, I have tried the Clearview +9 and +11. The +9 allowed the turbulence to hit me right in the eyes, so it got sent back. The +11 buffeted my head around way to much once I hit 60 mph. It too is going back. I may try the Rifle next, but I hate to spend all this money on shipping 'experimenting' with shields. I haven't researched all the discussions yet, but if someone has gone through all this before, please drop me a line. Yes, I know it's not a Gold Wing, but it would be nice to get a good protective shield for the winter and longer rides. I hope the 'windshield' is not a hopeless endeavor. I have also experimented with a couple of different windshields and in doing so found that raising and lowering the forks in the triple clamps seems to make a difference in how the air turbulance moving over the windshield buffets my helmet, altered angles of deflection and what not. Doing this will change the riding profile of the bike though, be careful. Later. Renn A15 (Rocinante)

Just give up on the windshield like I did and bundle up and lean into the wind. I installed the rifle +13" windshield system on my Y2K KLR 650 and am very pleased with it. The airflow hits the top of my helmet (above the visor) and there is little turbulence. It also lets me ride looking over the top of the shield. I installed a lowering kit from Quality Engine R&D and slid the fork tubes up 1" in the triple clamps. I am 5'10" at 180 lbs. Shawn Hoffman

I suspect that if air slots or deflectors directed positive air pressure to the aft envelope of the Clearview, then the turbulent boundary layer would rise some, possibly above the helmet. Riding long hours at high speeds with no shield gives a mother of a neck ache, and mine has stopped more than a few rocks and big bugs... Stuart A12

Hi Stuart: Would Saeng Stealth Edging help to achieve the desired result? I ordered some, but haven't tried it yet. Don't even have the KLR yet.
