an additional 5 watts of available power.

Post by transalp 1 » Tue Jan 12, 2010 9:24 am

Was in the auto parts store last night and noticed something new (to the store, anyway): Sylvania Ecobright headlamp bulbs.
They are claiming to produce at least as much light as stock (3200k bulb temp. vs. 3100k for a regular halogen, iirc.) while consuming less power.
Curious, I looked at the fine print and discovered they are rated at an average of 5 watts less than an equiv. normal bulb.
Their H4 or 9003 is 50/60w hi/low and the newer KLR's H7 bulbs are rated at 50w instead of 55w each.
It's not a lot. But, 5 watts to use somewhere else is something at least.
Me? I have Silverstars in my 09' and like the extra light. =)

Eddie  I ran Silver Stars when they first came out and they were blowing out at half the life of stock, same with my wifes car when I installed some there. Others had the same concern so I stopped using them. It's been several years so maybe they have corrected the problem, how are your SSs holding up? Another good place to save wattage is to swap out the license plate and instrument bulbs with LEDs. I'm assuming you already did the taillight. Mark

#ygrps-yiv-132730777 p {margin:0;}Silver Star lamps state right on the package that they have a shorter lifespan.  That's the price you pay for the higher color temperature and output. They are the brightest, whitest light you can get without going HID. -Jeff Khoury Astatic Solutions, LLC.

That depends on your state laws and if your local vehicle inspection guy and/or law enforcement are hardasses about it. In PA, it is required, and I prefer not to be harassed, although my woodsbeater I had several years ago lacked it. Mark

Mark Who has these bulbs. Also, I think I have seen some LED plates for the tail light area. TK From: revmaaatin To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Tue, January 12, 2010 10:00:24 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: an additional 5 watts of available power.

#ygrps-yiv-623758524 p {margin:0;} My 08' GL1800 blew both low beams within a couple of months of installing the Silverstars. The second set is holding up better. On the KLR, I haven't gotten enough miles on the bike to say they are lasting any longer. eddie
