Nope, don't want my next gen KLR to be some multi-cylinder beast. I don't want something just a little more dirt worthy than a V-strom. I don't want anything less dirt worthy than my current KLR. If Kawasali updates my KLR by giving it modern suspension, a modern single cylinder engine with a six speed and using mass centralization to give it a modern light feeling I would be one happy chappy. Ditto on that Pat. Why does everybody think to make it a real adventure tourer is to add another cylinder and more pounds and complexity. Me, take the same bike, maybe spiff up the ponies 5 or 10 or 15, spiff the suspension front and rear, six speeds or a better low gear, twin caliper front brake with maybe a floating rotor, real radiator guards and you are good to go. Charge 6 or 7 thousand I don't care. It would be worth it. Er ....change the muffler sound as it is pretty unmanly. It sounds like a 60's left wang Burkley sound now. Maybe make it sound like an old Gold Star. Criswell

Doesn't aren't you pretty much describe the BMW F650 GS? This is one fine bike, but pricey and you have to deal with BMW mechanics. HOwever, you wouldn't have to deal with the Kawa mechanics. Life is just one big trade-off.

Same here, except for that Gold Star part. The Gold Star was notorious for its "twittering" exhaust note. Some KLRs have already figured out how to go there.

Mike IMO only, the BMWF650 GS is not a dual sport at all. Too much weight, too little clearance and suspension. The DAKAR version is not as good as the KLR either, less clearance / suspension. Close but the weight and cost make it unacceptable for me. If it had 60-70hp, 9-10" of good suspension, then it would be a different story. They would probably corner the dual sport market. They have reduced the prices of the F650, so an $8500 bike with their quality, suspension, and hp would do it. You could take this thing on the road with ease, to any state, and then go off road. Of course I can do the same with my KLR, just way down on power when on road.

James, FWIW: I did my gnarliest (and possibly LAST!) KLR dirt ride this summer, in the rain, with another KLR and a BMW F650 GS. It's called the North Fork Pass from Alberta into British Columbia, and it's not for the faint of heart in those wet conditions. We each had problems here and there, but the fellow on the Beemer had the least, and he just rocked (pun intended...) up a rocky section that I had HUGE problems with, mostly because of the high first gear with the stock 15T sprocket, and HIS bike weighs close to 75 - 100 pounds MORE than the KLR!!! I'd love to see that guy on a 225 pounder! Ed
